To quote a much loved hobbit. Actually, I've been back since Tuesday, just sorting through my head & slogging through the heat. I really need to get downstairs to the basement laundry & wash a couple of loads - but it's so damn hot & muggy! I wish it were snowing ...
Mike & I drove straight to Fletcher Monday morning. We had a great day for it & an air conditioned car. I call my 2000 Elantra "Mr. Frodo" - which Helen has somehow changed to "Mr. Froto" while giving him little pats of encouragement on the dashboard - was in great form. We drove from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with stops for gas. Found out my pay-as-you-go Virgin cell phone works better than Mike's plan, whatever it is, so we were able to call Phyllis & let her know we were coming in shortly.
It was a strange visit, but a good one. Dad was able to communicate well even if there were long pauses for rest. He's bald now, but his head, face and neck looked just fine. (Does every girl think her dad is the most handsome man in the world, even if he's not the greatest dad? I wonder. Anyway, I reminded him that he was still a looker.) Unfortunately, the rest of his body is one giant hematoma. He can't stand or walk on his own. They take him in for physical therapy & a radiation treatment every day.
It's just sad.
Mike & I hope to visit along with other family members through the summer.
Took us longer to get back into the heat & muggy. I haven't had time to play with my vampire and I'm dying to get back to him. There'll be a hard push this week & I'm looking forward to it.
Thank you all for your good thoughts & wishes. I really believe you helped make this such a good visit. Phyllis told us Dad was in bad shape the day before.
Hugs everyone!
