Because it had been 10 years since I had done a Gargoyles costume, and I had forgotten what a pain they are ;)
The root of the whole idea was that I wanted to make the Phoenix Gate in jewelry class, and Demona is the logical costume to go with it. My Gate is two sheets of 8-gauge copper and brass, hand sawed/carved and then sweat-soldered.
So then I set out to make a Demona costume. I had a good deal of help and moral support from Matt, Shada, Mark and Dale. It took about two months, mostly weekends. The wings are an aluminum frame with fabric and pipe insulation around it, and the entire thing comes apart to easily fit in the car. Plus they are removable so I could sit down, go to the bathroom, etc. I may do another post about constructing the whole costume. It took about four hours to do makeup and assembly and get the whole thing together. I think it went pretty well, although in these pictures you can see that my outer belt is sagging a little and showing the inner belt that held my tail. I'll need to poke another hole in the belt to make it tighter.
I also convinced Jill (above) and Bethy (pictured later) to join in my insanity. Jill made this dress completely by herself in a weekend! It was the first thing she'd ever made! I'm impressed.
Jill also made her own Grimorum Arcanorum!
Bethy also made her costume pretty much single-handedly. DIdn't she do a good job?
Our whole group (Matt, Bethy, me, Jill, Ian). Matt, bless him, was pretty much my handler all day, helping me in and out of wings and doing touchup on makeup and getting me food.

Pictures of everything else we saw (including many many cool costumes) are in an album
