Some of the L&C people and I have a wips folder. We all upload our wips to a password-protected folder and then we can read each other's work and nag each other. We don't get a lot of dialogue that way, though, because there's no easy way to reply or comment on a piece. So I, at least, read other people's writing and think "Wow, that was cool!" but the author never knows because I never get around to sending an email about it.
Would it be weird if we posted wips here? They'd be protected posts so only my friends could see them, so it'd be like the wips folder only less complicated for everyone involved. No more uploading, no more complicated passwords, no nothing. And you could specify exactly who could see your stories and who couldn't so if, for instance, you were writing a birthday fic for your friend Bethy Sue, you could make it visible to everyone except her (you'd need a custom friends group to do this, but it's not hard to set up). Or if you want just your beta readers and yourself to be able to read a story but not the rest of the world, you could make it visible just to them.
So would that be weird? It'd mean copy-pasting out of word documents and such instead of just uploading to a wips folder, but it'd also mean the ability to leave instant feedback, a la message boards. If people are interested, I will set up a gated community. If not, just ignore me ;)
