Title: The Seminar
Fandom: Bones/NCIS
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters mentioned in this fic.

Working at the Jeffersonian was one of the best things to happen to Angela, but also one of the worst. She was working with excellent people, those at the top of their fields, but she was working with the dead. Skeletal remains of those who perished in wars, murders and other deaths that sometimes she didn't even understand how the experts managed to work out how they had died.

The hours were usually good, but since Dr Brennan had been assigned to assist the FBI in their investigations, she often got called in during dates or other events, like sleeping, movies, catching up with friends. It frustrated her that it seemed to rule her life at times. Luckily though, the FBI agent was a bit of alright... even if he did only have eyes for the good doctor. The others she worked with, Hodgins and Zack were pretty good friends too.

Hodgins, if not a bit paranoid was sweet and made her realise that money wasn't everything. Here he was one of the richest men around but he didn't flaunt it. He made people judge him on who he was as a person, not who he happened to be. Zack though, was one of the most naive people Angela had met. Extremely smart but it seemed to have stunted his social skills. The things Angela would have expected to be the simplest seemed to be what he struggled over. It was like if there wasn't an equation or a formula to it, he couldn't do it.

Angela shrugged and went back to worrying over what set her off on those train of thoughts. The seminar that both Cam and Dr Goodman wanted to send her on. She was supposed to be going out with Hodgins... no not Hodgins, Jack... on the weekend which it was to take place on. She knew he would understand, but after everything that had happened, she wanted to spend the time with him. She knew he still had nightmares about being buried alive, hell she still had nightmares about finding out her boyfriend and best friend had been taken.

"Ang, don't worry about it," Hodgins was saying to her when he found her in her office worrying. "We can go out another day. This will be a great opportunity for you."

"But what if something happens here?" she asked. "What if you need me? What if I need you?"

He knew what she was referring to but also knew that she needed to go the seminar. It would be an experience that she would enjoy. Maybe not the guest speakers bit, but being around other people who could understand what she did and why it was important.

"If I need you, I'll call. If you need me, I'm only ever a phone call away, you know that," he answered her with a smile.

She smiled at him, and nodded. She couldn't really understand why she was so nervous about going. She liked meeting new people and she was proud that her Angelator would be showcased at the seminar.

"Now to work out what to wear."

The hotel that the seminar was taking place in was enormous, with all the things a person could ever need being available. Angela was, as one of the guest speakers, in a suite to herself where she could prepare her sessions. She was supposed to be a guest speaker for two different sessions, 'Identity through Forensic Graphics' and 'The Jeffersonian'. Since she was lined up for the first, Goodman decided she should also do the second; it saved having to loose another staff member to the weekend away.

She looked through the brochure she had been handed, there was a programme for the event and she knew that both her guest speaker roles would be on the Sunday. There was plenty of other sessions though that took her fancy. She had promised Brennan that she would go to the session on Anthropology for her, since Brennan was going to be with her brother that weekend. They were flying down the next closest Forensic Anthropologist from Montreal to take the session and Brennan was curious as to what she would cover in the session.

Angela highlighted that session and the others she wanted to go to. In total there would be a couple of hours in the seminar a day and the rest of the time, she would be free to do what she wanted. There would also be two dinners she would be required to attend. The one to welcome them all, which was that night, and the one to farewell and thank them on the Sunday night.

Noting the time, she quickly got changed and headed downstairs to the restaurant where the dinner would take place.

She was led to a table which currently only had one other person sitting at it. The woman looked severely out of place in the restaurant. She had a tattoo on her neck of a spider's web and was wearing all black, her hair was tied up into pigtails and she looked about as happy as Angela had been originally about the whole event.

"Hi, I'm Angela."

"Abby," the woman replied. "So what do you think about this whole thing?"

"Wasn't too happy about the whole thing originally," Angela admitted. "Now I'm just not happy about having to talk about what I do."

"Oh I know," Abby quickly agreed. "I've got to do a session of scent DNA. Not many people understand me when I usually talk about it."

"Most people don't understand what I do," Angela said, knowing exactly what Abby was talking about. "So who do you usually work for?"

"NCIS," Abby said with a smile. "Any death involving a marine, officer of the Navy etc, we get assigned to. Same with other crimes involving them. Basically CSI within the Navy."

"Sounds pretty cool."

"What about you?"

"I work for the Jeffersonian. We help the FBI out sometimes with identification of skeletal remains etc."

"Ever dealt with an agent by the name of Fornell?"

"Nah, we work almost solely with an Agent Seeley Booth."

"Good looking?" Abby asked with a teasing smile.

"Oh hell yeah," Angela quickly agreed. "But he's got eyes for one of my colleagues and is sleeping with another. It's messed up."

"Sounds like."

The two women continued to talk as others were shown to their table. With little more than a glance at the guys, Angela continued to focus on the conversation she was having.

"Night Abby," Angela said as she reached her room. "I'll be at your session tomorrow, and then do you want to head out and look around?"

"Sure," Abby agreed. "If I make it through the session. But I need to change afterwards; I feel so unlike me in a suit."

"See you tomorrow then."

Angela walked into her room and called Jack. She spoke to him for an hour before dropping off to sleep.
