Summary: After her death, Kate found ways to keep tabs on those she left behind.
There was a white mist. It made it hard to see anything, but there was a faint outline up ahead and Kate made her way towards it. She felt like she had been walking forever and, if she were honest with herself, she wasn’t even walking. It was more like she was floating through a white nothingness. Then, suddenly, the white mist exploded in a bright flash and she was looking down at the rooftop she last remembered being on. Looking around, she saw Gibbs and Tony standing in shock. She saw blood on Tony’s face. Then she saw herself.

As time progressed, Kate learned that if she concentrated hard enough, she could do things and even make the others see her. The first time it happened, she was watching Tony and Abby hold each other. She was glad that the two could turn to each other to get through their grief. But as she watched, there was a niggling at the base of her ghostly spine. Concentrating on the feeling, her attention was directed to the sniper rifle Ari was about to fire into the lab. With every ounce of will she had, she nudged Tony to save them.

Watching each member of the team deal with her death was heart wrenching. She tried to spend time with each of them for fear that she would cease to exist at any moment. She wasn’t sure why she was still around. Her only unfinished business was with Ari, but there wasn’t much she could do except wait for Gibbs to kill the bastard. So she stayed around NCIS and was thankful that she could say goodbye in some unique way to each of them. She smiled thinking about her Catholic school uniform as she went to pay Tony a visit.

Her time finally came as they were lowering the coffin into the ground. She had smiled up at Gibbs as he arrived just in time to see her off. She could feel a tugging sensation in the center of her body and it kept growing stronger. As the team walked off, leaving her behind, the white mist returned and enveloped her. Several moments later it faded away and she found herself surrounded by others. Some she recognized and some she didn’t. But a red headed woman and a young girl walked up and thanked her for taking care of Jethro.

Over the years, she learned ways to keep tabs on those she left behind. It hurt to see Gibbs lose his memories and to see Tony finally find love only to lose it because of the case. But what hurt the most was the day she saw Gibbs go off the pier into the water. Shannon and Kelly had come up beside her at that moment. Shannon told her to go help Tony while her and Kelly took care of Jethro. She found herself in the water with Tony and held him close to give him the strength he needed.
