Summary: Xander tries to hide the effects his 'job' has on his body from the man closest to him.One day after he moved in with Tony DiNozzo, Xander found himself fighting for his life just a few short blocks away. Apparently a wannabe vampire family had set up shop in a vacant store building and Xander had stumbled upon them as he walked. The vampires weren't prepared for him to be armed with a stake and they were all fledglings. Still, they got a few lucky shots in before Xander managed to stake them all. He wrapped his arm protectively around his bruised ribs as he thought up a story about falling down the stairs to tell Tony.
Since Tony knew, in theory, what he did for a living, the 'falling down the stairs' line didn't always work. Bruises and cuts on his body, he could hide under clothes and careful movements. Tony would raise an eyebrow at him when he was sitting on the couch with a sweatshirt and pants on when the air was broken on a hundred degree day, but not question him. Xander was never sure if Tony knew what he was doing, but he was glad he didn't question it. He didn't want more lectures regarding the possibility of death by a demon.
There was one embarrassing time that Xander knew he wouldn't be able to cover up, no matter what he tried. They still didn't have an identity on the breed of demon he had encountered. There were no records anywhere that discussed it or the capabilities it had for certain spells. The best Willow could determine was that it took something from the person that would cause them humiliation. All indications showed the spell would last a week, but Xander took no chances of Tony finding out. He spent his week as a castrated male holed up in the council's headquarters.
After their relationship started, it became increasingly harder to keep even the smallest of injuries from Tony's keen eyesight. Lying naked in bed with Tony left him open and completely bare to Tony's intense scrutiny. So Xander appealed to a higher authority; Willow. With a warning of 'not to use it too much,' Xander received a topical cream that could help conceal the small cuts and bruises he acquired on a day-to-day basis from encounters with various vampires and demons. The only downfall was the day Tony walked in on him applying some 'make-up' to his face in the mirror.
It wasn't always easy to keep things from Tony. Five months after their relationship started, one of the slayers had to rush him to the emergency room after a particularly rough fight. His arm was bent at an unnatural angle and the pain left him wanting to curl into a little ball. He asked the slayer to call Tony, but before she got to phone, they saw the man himself being wheeled past the room with a fuming Gibbs hot on his heels. Later that night, they both sat in Gibbs' living room with matching casts and a glaring Gibbs.
