Summary: There were five times he worked for his father. But thankfully, he never stayed.
He was twelve the first time. He was in the study after handing his father his drink and waiting for the verdict on what his summer schedule would be. He was surprised and slightly excited when his father said that in lieu of his allowance, he would earn his money by working as a mail boy at the office. The loss of money made him nervous, but having the chance to be around his father more than made up for it. At least until he realized that delivering mail was the most boring job in the world for a twelve-year-old.

The summer he turned eighteen was a frightening one. He wasn't planning to follow his father's footsteps and take business classes at some Ivy League school. Instead, he had a partial sports scholarship to Ohio State and the trust fund his grandfather had set up for him. He had school covered, but he wanted extra funds to put towards a car and fun. So he had asked his father for a summer job and his father accepted. If only he had known what job his father had planned for him. Being secretary for a demanding man was not summer fun.

Upon graduation four short years later, he found himself laden with a cast back at home. His father, while helpful when it came to costs of doctors and therapy, had riddled him with things like, "This is why you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket, son. You're already a 'has been' and you never went professional." He accepted his father's offer for a position in customer service at the company's phone banks while he worked through the therapy. The fact that he had a back-up plan in mind was never mentioned to his father. Cops weren't his thing.

Philly had left a bad taste in his mouth and another cast on his leg. Again, his father offered assistance when it came to medical care and he would have been a fool to pass up the offer. But the strings that came with the offer were almost too much. On non-therapy days, he found himself in a stuffy boardroom with fat old men arguing over politics and their latest wives. He kept his resume circulating and as soon as the cast was gone and he could walk unaided, he fled to the first precinct that wanted him: Baltimore PD.

Early on at Baltimore, a case had crossed paths with NCIS and a bastard of a federal agent. When the bastard had told him to put in for a job, he had laughed at first but eventually applied. It took longer than any job hire ever had. There was an extensive background check being performed to provide him clearance and that was before the training could start at FLETC. Instead of playing it by ear with Baltimore, he snagged a security guard spot with his father's company. Leaving for FLETC, he knew he would never work for his father again.
