My bros are complete dumb-asses when it comes to recycling: it's a miracle they don't flush the milk cartons down the toilet. At their best they put metal in paper section, or paper in plastic section and leave plastic in the basin.
But that's not what this post was destined for, oh no; because I had an extravagant dream!
Me, my family and some unknown friends were going to Mars. We had hired a Captain I never cared to look at, whose space ship looked like the one in '
Wallace & Gromit - A Grand Day Out'.
Landing on Mars surprisingly short after take-off we spread out to explore. Mars did not look much like that red planet we see on TV etc. by the way. I ended up with a revitalised Besta (my grandmother), who jumped around like a crazy bandicoot and left me feeling quite sluggish and clumsy.
After battling our way through dusty fields and enormous jungles that seemed to hold nothing but huge trees with hanging leaves resembling bearded, green snakes we got to a sort of bog. Everything had an acidic, ember-coloured look. To get out of the bog we had to cross a pond of some sort of transparent liquid. Besta quickly found a series of inflated, floating platforms that looked like they came from a Super Mario game. So she jumped from platform to platform like a ..well.. Super Mario. Me on the other hand slipped on the first platform and plunged right into the "water".
Finally on the other side we encountered a steep hill taken over by beige plants that looked like a cross between nettles (of the deadly sort) and nasty seaweed. And they smelled of rot and ammoniac. Etched away most of our clothes, they did too! But we managed to get to the top, which was a vast field of grass in a dull shade of green and purple. Here we met Olaf and Anne-Grete, some friends of my parents', who looked very pleased and told us to look to the western sky. And WOW! On the misty, pink sky we saw the planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptun and Pluto, all the size of footballs. Turning to the east we eyed Earth, Mercury and Venus, also the size of balls.
Thus we ran towards Earth, which grew steadily to the size of a football stadium, before getting obscured by a new forest with a more familiar look; grand fir trees and pale brown soil. Almost through this comforting forest I found the rest of the travelling team standing around the space ship, looking up at Earth, all in high spirit.
We never got home, however: I am still there!
