Movie Review: Moon

Jul 04, 2009 22:10

Let me just say this as clearly as possible:  if you have given your money to Michael Bay for Transformers 2, then you can find the ten dollars or so to see Moon to MAKE UP for seeing Transformers 2.

Moon is an absolutely brilliant sci-fi film by Duncan Jones with more or less two characters: Sam Bell and Gerty the computer (voiced by Kevin Spacey).

It was heartbreaking, depressing, heartwarming, and all around amazing.  Moon is a cinematic five course meal with a decadent dessert at the end.  It is what I have been craving to see: good filmmaking paired with good storytelling.

Also: THANK YOU to the filmmakers for a sci-fi movie without any sort of explosion.

The acting was amazing and the story?  I thought I knew what I was in for... I was wrong.

Moon is what Hollywood is lacking.  Moon has story, heart, acting in spades, and more depth and thought in it than most of the movies Hollywood has made in the last five years.
