The Wedding!

Aug 20, 2008 18:46

It was such a wonderful night!

Neither James nor I really cared about having a professional photographer, so any pics here are from the kindness of family and friends! Also I had a "wedding smile" all ready, where my eyes looked really big, but it's a fake smile and on the night I was so happy that I couldn't help doing my squinty real smile.

The Ceremony

It had rained for an hour or so prior to the ceremony, and traffic was awful! James said he and his family left Malvern at around 5:15 for the 6:30 ceremony, thinking they had plenty of time, and only made it with 10 minutes to spare! I had to hide behind a door in the waiting room because everyone had already arrived and I thought it would be anticlimactic if the surprise were ruined.

Also ... I BAWLED through the whole ceremony! I could feel myself getting teary as soon as I walked down the aisle, and everyone I loved was smiling at me, and James had this HUGE grin on his face, and he looked so very happy to see me. I tripped over my dress a little too. Oops! I made it through his vows okay, but when it was time to say mine, the tears kept building until about halfway through when I was crying so hard I couldn't even talk (also according to Cat afterwards I said "in sickness and in health" several times)

I heard Cat sniffing behind me and that set me off again. And just when I was under control I saw Liz dabbing her eyes and started crying again.

Also I couldn't get James' ring on!!! (Confession: we'd practiced the rings beforehand!) So I kept trying to force the ring past his knuckle and it would. not. budge.

I think this photo is after our kiss. I like how happy we both look!

The whole family!

Afterwards James was like "aww I think you cried one of your eyelashes off". I think my tears melted the glue or something.

The Reception

We had the reception at The Athenaeum Club, and it was such a lovely venue! We were only able to use the club because James' dad is a member, so we were pretty lucky! It was also only a short walk from the Old Treasury Building. =)

The cake cutting - grainy pic and the colour is kind of surreal but I like it! The top tier of the cake is choc raspberry and the bottom tier is citrus.

We were so lucky - the club did everything for us! They did all the work preparing the drawing room, and they made sure the evening went smoothly . This must have been the most stress-free wedding ever.

The meal was delicious but I barely ate any because I was so excited. Luckily we'd had a tasting menu a few weeks beforehand so we knew what it all tasted like!

Everyone made such lovely speeches! Cat told this really sweet story about this time that James and I went overseas a few years ago - I thought I'd lost a great deal of money back in Singapore, but then James found it ("found" it). I was crying for hours over losing that money, and the long and short of it is, he'd walked the streets of Singapore, withdrawn some money from his parents' credit card (paid them back later!), exchanged it for the various foreign currencies that I'd had, put the money in an envelope, crinkled up the envelope, and pretended that he'd found it. =)

I was chatting to Ivo, and she said something that really encapsulated it! She said "most guys make romantic gestures cos they want the girls to love them for it, and acknowledge it in some way. But James loved you SO much that he made a romantic gesture just to stop you from hurting, and you could NEVER find out so he could never even take credit for it. Like doing something sweet and getting acknowledged for it is one thing, but doing something sweet and knowing that the person can NEVER find out ..."

<3 my Jamesy. Even though in his speech he made fun of me for crying at the ceremony and revealed Mystical Kaye and my secret love of possums.

The cousins!

The boy cousins! Too cool .. =P

The girl cousins! So sweet!

Favourite memories of the night

Getting the entree and trying to remember which forks to use, and then hearing Jon say "I think you start at the outside and go in" (which is exactly what I'd thought too!)

Walking to the reception venue and having total strangers smile at us.

Seeing James' uncle get progressively more and more drunk, to the point where he made a really funny hooting/laughing noise at one of the speeches that made everyone laugh again.

Hearing guy after guy rave about how awesome the men's bathroom was (apparently they had shaving packs, towels, needle and thread, and a shoe buffer in there!) I'm told the women's bathroom was not nearly so amazing.

Seeing Cat's face when dad said that I was my "mother's pride and joy". Suck it Cat! ;)

There are heaps of other photos but I don't really have much patience for putting them on LJ and I just grabbed a couple from Facebook. It was such a lovely night and I feel so guilty that I'm only just starting to get to the thank you notes. I've been really sick the past couple of weeks (boo!) but plan to have them out by the end of the week!

Now I just need to get around to changing my name and planning the honeymoon. Nothing but good times ahead!
