not quite birthday fic
Wanted to post a fic for my birthday. Failed. But hey, it's only a couple of days late, and that matters to literally no one except me.
(I started and abandoned two different Nile-centric fics this week before settling into this one, sigh. I do intend to return to them, though! I just realized they were gonna need a lot more time to finish, and I really wanted to have something to post this weekend, dammit.)

Yet you still know them by the space they have left behind."
