After spending an hour and a half futzing around, I have come to the conclusion that I am completely stupid when it comes to Tumblr. Everything about what that site is and how it functions is completely counterintuitive to the way my brain processes information. UGH. I like the pretty pictures! Tumblr is kind of crap, as addicted to it as I now am. Margaret's boss was asking about it the other day (he's a LARPer, so we're pretty candid about fandom with him) and I was like, "I don't understand how it works. It's shitty as hell. People are assholes. But I know how to make pretty pictures of James McAvoy's face come to me, and that's all I really need to know." Fannish interaction is not its main purpose (if it even has one) and it's a terrible platform for communication.

That being said, I think interaction comes with time. Once there are people following you, you begin to occassionally respond to the commentary on their reblogs with your own commentary and pseudo-relationships form. But I don't really understand people using it as their main fannish platform because there's NOT that easy way to communication with others. It's a nice supplement to LJ and Twitter, for me, but I don't feel like I get a lot of companionship out of it the way I get it out of my flist or my Twitter followers. I don't know the people I "talk to" on Tumblr unless I follow them in other places as well.

So, in conclusion... Tumblr sucks. But. Pictures.

UGH. I feel like I'm conducting some kind of anthropological study every time I try to engage in Tumblr fandom. Communication just makes NO SENSE over there!
