being fannish. and such.

Man, nothing improves a good Doctor/Rose fic. Except, of course, the judicious inclusion of Jack at the end there. It's kind of odd how attached I am -- and most of fandom is, it seems -- to the halcyon days when the Doctor, Rose, and Jack were traveling together, given that it only actually lasted for a handful of episodes. Good times, though. I ( Read more... )

Oh, I'll probably wind up watching Torchwood anyway. If it were utter crap, it wouldn't have such a huge and loyal fanbase among my f-list, after all. ;)

Ahhh. I kind of feel as if you're reading my brain. Well, those DW feelings about S1 were me two years ago, but I do still sometimes feel nostalgic (and how weird/geeky is that, nostalgia for a fictional time) for that, because Ten is sometimes more brilliant but also more difficult, and Jack is certainly more tortured, and...yeah, sorry. I need to watch S1 again and relive happy times, clearly.

But what I really meant was about downplaying geekiness - I'm just starting college, and especially after taking a year off and being with friends of mine who at the very least accepted that part of me, it's daunting to try to make new friends with whom I'm not sure I can share that. I didn't realize how lucky I was before to have RL friends who understood fandom, were in similar fandoms, and would be willing to indulge me whenever I needed to obsess about some random thing, even if they had no idea what I was talking about. And now I just wish I could find someone who wouldn't shun me if I started being fannish, because so far I don't know ( ... )

It IS daunting. I've more or less reached a point in my life where I've stopped caring who knows about my fandom-ness, at least to some extent, because if they're THAT put off by it they're probably not worth hanging around. But it took me most of college to get here, and I still instinctively tone it down a lot with most people.

And we should SO hang out! Since we're both new to the area, I'm sure we could have loads of fun getting lost together. :)
