Well, if it makes you feel better, Rowling never does say what spell Bellatrix put on Sirius to make him fall backwards into the veil. I guess I just always assumed it was Avada Kedavra because of the green jet stream coming from the wand.
But yes, much with the Tragic Sirius/Remus love. And wanting to know more about the First Rebellion. *nods* Maybe she can do a prequel series next.
In the book, it's not even a green light type of spell -- Harry sees a flash of red light, and then Sirius falls into the Veil. I remember all the great debating in the Sirius/Remus part of fandom back after book 5 was released, trying to figure out what exactly Bellatrix had thrown at him. :) Think the general consensus in the end was a Stunning spell, though I'm not sure. But, yeah, part of what annoyed me so much about the Avada Kedavra in the movie is the fact that we all spent so much time trying to figure out what actually happened -- changing it to a simple killing curse kinda robs us of all that discussion and speculation, y'know? It doesn't bother me nearly as much now that I've slept on it, but still.
A prequel series...hmmm. Would be interesting. But I've got fanfic for that. :D
Huh, really, it was red? Man, you'd totally think I'd remember that, since I just got through re-reading Book 5 on Monday.
I love the books & the movies liek woah & I love me some Remus/Sirius like I love Karl/Orlando from Lotrips, but I never really got into the HP fandom. Mainly because it scares the living hell out of me. *g* So I never really get to have all of those fandom-y discussions unless it's with one of you guys on my flist. By the same token, I don't read any of the fic, either, unless one of you guys writes it. So a prequel series would rock for me. *g*
I don't have my copy of OotP on me at the moment, but I'll double-check it when I get home. I mainly remember because of all the debates at the time -- if JKR had described it as green, we would've all just been, oh, Avada Kedavra, obviously, and it never would've been a subject of discussion.
Parts of HP fandom are indeed quite frightening. I've lucked out, it seems -- the R/S shippers tend to be a bit less scary as a whole, and I seem to have stumbled upon a fairly sane corner of that community back when I first started writing R/S fic. I know the crazies are out there, but they don't play in my sandbox, thank god.
Okay, this is probably going to get me completely kicked out of what little part of the fandom that I'm in, but I really didn't care for the shoebox project. *meeps* Seriously.
Maybe it's just that I don't care about the Maurader-era or schoolboy!Remus & Sirius & James, I don't know. But it never grabbed me.
What I'd like, though, would be if J.K. did a series/book/one-off during the First Resistance & with the First Order. I'd like to get to know Moody & Sirius & Remus & James & the Longbottoms when they were whole & healthy & fighting.
To each her own re: shoebox. I love the schoolboy era, so it totally does it for me.
But in that case, might I rec Pru's "Levity" series? It's all under the HP section on her fic website, and it's a long, plotty fic that covers Remus/Sirius over the course of the post-Hogwarts years, up until the very end of the first war.
It'd be really cool to read JKR's version of events for the original Order. If only.
Yeah, I think I might quite enjoy it if I was into the Marauder Era. Me, though, I love the post-PoA through OotP fics - the ones that deal with the messy aftermath of betrayal & years lost & how wrecked they both were without each other. I mean, I love happy!fics, don't get me wrong, but there's just something about the two of them that begs for the really delicately drawn great angst.
*bookmarks fic for later reading* Thank you, baby. And, y'know, any other recs would be welcome.
Maybe, after she's been away from the series for a couple of years, we can start asking for a First Order Prequel series. :)
I'm crap at proper fic recs, but that's all right, because other people rec things instead. The best rec list I've yet to encounter for R/S is here; it's especially wonderful because she's tagged them all by time period, so whatever era of R/S you're in the mood for, you can find.
But yes, much with the Tragic Sirius/Remus love. And wanting to know more about the First Rebellion. *nods* Maybe she can do a prequel series next.
