Opportunities Come a Calling

Kaydee's cellphone rang.  She had found the most annoying ringtone for the most annoying man in her life: her manager.  She glanced up at Mickey who was fiddling with his bass in front of her.  She was perched on the recording console and they shared a look of "this can't be good" before she accepted the call.

"What?" she said tersely.  She really was starting to think about finding a new manager.

"Katelyn!  Baby, have I got news for you!  There's a new indie record label out in Los Angeles.  They're just getting their shit together.  And guess what?  They are looking to sign you!  Baby, this can bring you opportunities beyond you wildest dreams."

As the creep spoke, she looked at Mickey, cringing each time he called her baby but her eyes went wide when he finished.  She wasn't interested in going to LA, but the chance to be on a real label was incredible.  The band wasn't going anywhere here in New York.  Kaydee took the phone from her ear and put Mark the Manager on speaker so Mickey could listen.

"They're bigger than 8th Note?" she asked, weighing her options.  She expected him to put a bit of a positive spin on things.  He was, after all, a smarmy businessman.

"Huge in comparison!  Baby, this will get your name out to the public!  8th Note is great but compared to them, Jack Rabbit is virtually Interscope!  This would be the move your career needs.  Just think, you could tour the whole country instead of a few cities here and there on the East Coast."

"Yeah...I don't know, Mark.  I hate California."  Mickey looked at her like she was crazy.  He knew a golden opportunity when he heard one.

"Kay, I think he's onto something," Mickey chimed in.

"Puppies big break, huh?  You truly think so?"

"Really and truly," came the sleazy however truthful reply from the phone.

Kaydee looked at Mickey.  He seemed to think is was a good idea and she trusted his judgment.  He had been around the music business for a long time and he knew what was what.  And if he seemed to think they should take this chance, then maybe they should.  She wouldn't be alone at the least.  "Los Angeles it is, then."
