It's been years since I've tried writing anything, but I got these two fortunes in the last couple days (on a Chinese food kick, apparently), and I couldn't resist.

It’s nice, this… being normal, eating Chinese food straight from the containers, watching bad reruns of Sex and the City. Lex takes a bite of chow mein and sucks in a stray noodle, chewing mildly. Clark glances over and grins, chopsticks poised with a piece of green pepper. Lex can’t help but smile around his food. When he’s not busy taking over the world one corporate merger at a time, Lex is pretty content to roll up his shirt sleeves and relax on this couch that’s a little too scratchy, a little bit stained, but perfectly broken in.

“Good, huh?” Clark asks, swallowing his bite. He dives back in with the chopsticks, rooting around for nuts in his spicy cashew chicken.

“Mmm-hmm,” Lex agrees, nudging Clark’s hand out of the way and deftly plucking a cashew from Clark’s container. Clark scowls and eats a piece of chicken instead.

The show ends and little white cardboard boxes litter Clark’s scuffed coffee table. Lex sets his empty box down amidst the mess and leans back, letting the soft cushions of the couch envelop him. He sighs, content and full-bellied.

Clark reaches over and pokes Lex right in the stomach.

“Hey, watch that!” Lex exclaims, covering his stomach protectively.

“You left room for fortune cookies, I hope.” Clark rummages through the brown paper bag filled with unused napkins and soy sauce packets, emerging with two cookies. He tosses one to Lex. “Eat the cookie first, then read the fortune. That way it’ll come true.”

Lex nods obediently, tearing open his cookie. Clark eats his in two bites, chomping noisily as he unfolds the tiny paper with big, clumsy fingers. He laughs loudly, a few stray crumbs dusting his chest. Lex raises one eyebrow in question.

Clark swallows his cookie. “You will be fortunate in everything you put your hands on. In bed!” He grins, laughter lighting his eyes. His elbow nudges Lex’s ribcage lightly and he waggles his eyebrows suggestively.

Lex smiles, swallows, and unfolds his own fortune. He reads it to himself. Stop searching forever, happiness is next to you. He glances at Clark and folds the paper back up, sticks it in his back pocket. Warmth spreads across his chest and he fights the smile struggling on his lips. Clark’s watching him, eyebrows raised in amusement, cheeks flushed and eyes bright.

“What’s it say?”

“Didn’t you ever hear that if you read it out loud, it won’t come true? Now, I don’t know about you, Clark, but I’m not willing to take that risk.”

Cute fortunes!

Sorry for the blurriness... it's as good as I could get it. *g*
