while josh's mommy was here, she told him, out of nowhere "when the time comes and you're going to propose to kalin make sure you do it properly and ask her dad first"
weird.
(josh's btw i think is the sort of boy who'd do that had i not said before i think that's weird)

Any time someone tells me that their boyfriend asked their dad for permission before proposing, I ask them if they also asked his parents for permission. They always laugh quite a lot at that ridiculous idea. And then I watch them try to explain why there's nothing sexist about expecting a guy to ask a girl's dad, but not expecting a girl to ask the guy's parents.

because the boy does the asking of the girl in a traditional gendered relationship. so he checks with both sets. if the girl was doing the asking she'd check with both sets.
also because girls are property.

If anybody asked my dad to let me marry them, he'd laugh his ass off. Then he'd say, "Why bother getting married, it's expensive."

my uncle mistakenly thought sam crosby was my boyfriend once, and gave him a talk about the importance of asking for my hand. which sam of course told to me, and i told to my dad. my dad laughed. cause seriously who DOES that.
