This"Writer Seeking Artist" ad is an example of so many examples of what not to do that I just had to share.
I have recently finished writing and am now scripting, what I consider, a very good BATMAN story, a new twist on the character. This story is long enough that it would be graphic novel in length, again, I put A LOT of time into it. This is a project that I VERY much want to finish; I know it's Batman so no money will be made but this is my idea:
Not only is this an unpaid job with no chance of profit, but it's a property owned by someone else. The OP is basically seeking someone to draw his fanfic.
Once the book is finished, I will created a website and put the book on the site for review, people can tell "us" they love it, they hate it, offer any feedback they like. I think it would be a GREAT learning experience and who knows, "we" just might get discovered...
Considering the plethora of comics out there by people of all skill levels, it's not easy to be noticed. If you post it they will come usually doesn't work; there are exceptions should the right eyes spy it, but more often than not you need spread the word.
I'm telling you, this is a REALLY good story!
YES, this is my first attempt at a script but I put a lot into it, the concept is SOLID...
With no information at all provided as to the story, artists are expected to take his word for it. A kinder soul would say he's enthusiastic; to me he sounds amateur and desperate. In my mind, I imagine a teenager with little to no knowledge of the comic industry beyond that of a consumer.
I'm a 48 year old male with good writing experience and a love of comics...
I have run my story past the owners of a very successful comic book store and they would not BS me if they thought the idea sucked...
My issue is that I don't have the funds to pay someone to do the artwork for me...
Now I'm even more wary. I've had friends deal with such naiveté, and even if the writer is a nice person, it can be an annoying waste of time to have to be artist and teacher to a stranger who didn't seem to do any research on his/her own. As for the inability to even pay even a token page rate, if you're 48 and are serious about breaking into comics, you better be willing to invest the money required. Also running it by some comic shop owner who is probably a friend doesn't convince me.
The frosting on the cake is the OP posted
two more times within a week.
