Well the day I got laid off, I went to HD and bought the rest of the supplies I needed to finish the addition to the studio ( well not EVERYTHING, but LOT )
My brother Mike arrived that evening, and we started in earnest the next day. We had to replace the entire shower assembly in the master bathroom as appeasement to Minna, and it really did need it, as it had broken 6 months before and would only allow baths, not showers. So we tore the outside wall of the house open, as to not disturb the tilework and replaced the shower head, plumbing and all accoutrments.
Next we started on the studio roof over the stairs and got that all framed up and the decking in place. Mike had to leave on Wednesday as he still had a job he needed to get back too...
I wimped out on Wednesday and Thursday as it was way too cold, but the last 4 days have been out there plodding along. Making slow but steady progress.
Today I framed the end wall that faces the west sun, and will be super insulating that wall, radiant barrier, urethan foam and as much insulation as I can stuff in there, then covering with T-111 like the rest of the studio.
I also built and set in concrete one of the main support posts for the roof and stairs covering. Maya helped me man handle the beast in place as it was huge and probably weighed 150 pounds. We got it set in the hole, trued and plumb, and then I framed the concrete base and poured the "necklace" to hold the post and roof. It took (5) 80 pound bags and is setting nicely as we speak.
It's always gratifying to pour concrete, as at the end, you get to scribe your name for posterity, and since concrete is one of the more durable man made substances on the planet, will be there for a LONG TIME
signed it Mojo 2009...
Tomorrow I have a website to start on, and will be re-arranging my internet, cable and hosting plans, to scale back my monthly costs. I'm going to move my web hosts to a colo, and try and turn the Time Warner business class off... should save me 50 bucks a month and since I get 1/4 of a rack for 140 per month, I should be able to keep at least 5 or 6 computers there.
Sharepoint
Exchange
WebServer
Linux
Firewall
That should just about do it.
While it is somewhat terrifying not to have a regular income, it also is very liberating and I am getting a LOT of my things done...
yay!
