Okay, I'm beginning to believe that fanfiction.net is actually a secret conspiracy to eliminate fanfiction entirely by alienating authors to the point where they never want to write ever again just so they don't have to deal with awful archiving sites.
I've just realized that fanfiction.net has devoured all my scene breaks. I use "---" but apparently that's no longer acceptable for reasons behind my feeble writerly mind. I'm going back through and replacing them with the significantly more obtrusive horizonal line tool in the hopes that, since it's ff.net's own approved html, it won't get deleted. I really don't like it on an aesthetic level, though. It looks particularly stupid when I'm separating out only one line. Plus, I use the line to denote where an author's note ends and the story begins, so now my few stories with notes are just a mess. Better than lacking scene breaks, though.
Ugh, I'm really annoyed by this, and not just because fixing it is tedious. How long has it been like this? Some of my stories are damn near unreadable without scene breaks. How many people stumpled across them and gave up because they were impossible to decipher? I left a link on my profile to my LJ fic journal.
This just makes me love LJ and AO3 all the more.
I've fixed all my Dollhouse fics. I still have to comb through my older ones. I know I also want to fix my HIMYM ones, at least.
