I think I mentioned in an earlier entry that I, my brother, and the roommate are rewatching new Doctor Who together. We're all pretty busy, so it's been more like we squeeze in an episode here and there during the rare occasions we're all home at the same time (which is usually late at night). So even though we started the rewatch three weeks ago, we're only up through "The Long Game."
I've done rewatches before, but I usually blast through series one pretty quickly. It's my least favorite of the new series, but I always feel kind of bad for thinking of Nine as just sort of marking time until Ten comes along and I've always wanted to take series one a little more slowly and appreciate him.
Now that it's happened? Ugh. Series one is so badly paced. Eccleston, though technically my first Doctor, just never hit the right Doctor-y note for me like Tennant and Smith did pretty much right at the beginning of their runs.
Anyway, impressions: I still dislike "Dalek" as much as I did, though this time around it was made more fun by my brother and I providing MST3K-style commentary (it was one of the few episodes my brother had seen before). The roommate got kind of mad at us because he had never seen it before and he was actually trying to listen to the dialogue.
No one really had anything to say about Aliens of London/World War Three, and The Long Game also prompted more running commentary, though of a fonder sort. Everyone rather liked that one. I've always found The Long Game kind of forgettable, and Simon Pegg wasn't as good as I remembered. The roommate was very much amused at the part where Adam vomits up the ice cube.
I can't wait to get to Moffat's two-parter. I wonder if it's still as good as I remember it.
