Well, at least one good thing has come out of the WGA strike: Da Vinci Code prequel delayedI suppose it would be too much to hope they abandon the project altogether? In the interests of not spreading Dan Brown's "literature" any further than it's already gone? Haha, Dan Brown fans, I kid, I kid ( Read more... )

LOL, I still haven't seen the Da Vinci Code film interpretation. Not sure I care too, either. That said, despite going into the book as a skeptic, I really enjoyed it; that was the one book I took w/me on my European sabbatical and I read it something like three times in 9wks ;-) I guess I don't get what all the haters hate about it. It's fiction - no more, no less.

Good luck w/the cold. You don't want to hear about the weather in San Diego!

Heh, it's not the story I have a problem with. I actually enjoyed the film version - it wasn't anything great, but I didn't think it was a wasted trip to the theater, either. It's just that I think Dan Brown's writing is horrible. Dull, lifeless prose, over the top cliches, big words and description simply for the sake of big words and description and not used with any sort of sense of the rhythm of language or whether it even sounds good.

I can give him credit for writing an entertaining story (and for angering certain fundamentalist groups), but I just can't stand to read it. It's a case where a very mediocre writer has achieved massive and completely baffling popularity, while much better-written books with stories just as good are ignored by the masses. I mean, good on him for being in the right place at the right time, because so much of this kind of thing depends on timing and connecting with the right people. I just wish he was a good enough writer that I didn't feel like he doesn't deserve it.
