because I like to think of myself as a fairly well informed citizen...

The Native Hawaiian activists are at it again. This time it's an ad placed by a tourism company depicting the statue of King Kamehameha, Hawaii's first monarch holding up a champaign.
Right I get how that can be offensive to native hawaiian groups. I really get it, it tramples upon a great figure in Hawaiian history. I get that all.
The company in question has releaced a formal public apology and has pulled the ad. In the future the company will be implimenting classes on Hawaiian history and culture for it's marketing deparment. They did not realize it was a sensitive issue until it had been brought to their attention. Now recognizing their error is it not likely it will ever happen again.
The story has been given a relatively fair amount of media attention broadcasting on both morning and evening news alike on all local chanels. Any hawaii Touristm group would now know if they had not before realized, alterations on hawaiian cultural figures= blasphemy.
lesson learned it will never happen again, accept the apology and let it go. If it happens again go for the jugular and take the company in question to court. Because after this they really should have known better.
But overly sensitive Native Hawaiian Activists continue to rant spit and caw over it. They demand plenty cash. In short it's like saying "you've offended me! give me money!" If you've seen the news, just see them talk, hear what they say it really does sound like that. I can liken it to an accident victum making an injury out to be worse than it really is to demand more money than really he deserves.
In my very frank opinion get a job and EARN your money like the rest of us.
