Seriously Though.
Spoilers for Samurai Champloo. And a rant. Also, I haven't rewatched this series in a while, so forgive me for small details I've missed. Not for the faint of heart, click if you must.
Samurai Champloo - you take one of the three mains, you take all three of them, but for heaven's sake do not seriously pair them up! I can hear you now - "But Leafy, you wrote a fanfic about Jin and Fuu being married!" Yes, yes I did. I will admit this. BUT. I didn't actually believe for one second that it was canon, and I was just having fun with it.
The people I understand least are Fuu/Mugen shippers. Seriously. There is nothing there, save for sibling-style teasing. The only reasonable explanation I've seen for it is 'he's been screwing around for a long time and all of a sudden he fell in love for real'. That's all well and good, but if that ever happened, how would Mugen deal with it? He doesn't have any sense of stability. Heck, when stability comes around, he slices it up and moves on to the next thing. It makes him uncomfortable.
Jin is a little bit better with Fuu, but not by much. Sure, he reminds Fuu of her father, he's responsible, he's dependable, he's quiet and doesn't make a lot of waves [except for that periodic killing people bit] but OH SWEET JAYZUS there is no way that would work out. Fuu needs a whole lot more stimulation and reaction than a disinterested 'Hm' every 3 hours.
And if she were to fall in love with Jin, she'd have to change her outlook a whole lot. She'd have to appreciate more subtleties, be patient, recognize affection through actions, etc. Sure, there are some tender moments in the series between the two of them. But honestly, that's because our three favorite travellers are clinging to each other for lack of anyone else!
Another thing I don't understand that people do in this fandom is plop our dear trio into another time/space continuum. The brilliance and excitement of AU writing is lost on me, I suppose. Okay, urban: Jin is a white-collar businessman, Mugen is a crack dealer, Fuu is a girl going to school downtown. Wait, what? Or worse yet, they're all going to school TOGETHER. Unless it's elementary school, this makes no sense as they're at least 4 years apart in age! >_> I am annoyed.
