Charlie was trying to figure out how gift wrappers did that thing with making the ribbon all curly. He couldn't work out how to do it, so there was plenty of ribbon and packing tape (he forgot sticky tape) and brightly colored paper along with gifts.

Alanna knocked on the door, an annoying cat on her shoulder and a messily wrapped cat in one bandaged hand.

"Yeah!" he called, looking up. When he saw it was Alanna he grinned. "Lucky timing. Yours," he handed her the package.

"And yours." Alanna handed over Faithful to Charlie with a grin. "Please tell me I'm not the only one who was attacked by books."

Charlie carefully took Faithful and set him down on his lap, scritching him between the ears. "Nah, I've heard it's been happening all over the place."

In Alanna's package was this bracelet.

"Oh good." Alanna opened up the present. "Oh. Oh my. This is gorgeous!" She hugged and Charlie and dropped a watch shapped present on his lap.

"I'm glad you like it." He gently shook the present curiously with one hand while keeping Faithful placated by scritching him with the other for a moment. Then Charlie unwrapped the gift and ran his fingers over it, then grinned at her. "I love it." He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. "Hey, it's happy Mid-Winter or merry something or other for you today, right?"

Faithful? Was more than a little placated. Alanna grinned. "Yup. MidWinter is tonight. Longest night of the year. And apparently we were both fixated on wrists this year. Glad you like it."

"'Course I like it. It's from you," he said as if that explained everything. "Then happy MidWinter. When are you off to LA?"

"The same to you, though, what holiday do you celebrate? And no clue. You?" Alanna tried to put on the bracelet but it was kind of hard due to lack of finger motion.

"I don't know if I really celebrate anything. I count Christmas as a holiday though. I wasn't really planning on going. Was gonna hang around here, hold the fort. That kind of thing."

"In case snowmen attack?" Alanna asked with a smile.

"Nah, that's happened. Fandom doesn't like to repeat itself. It's picky like that."

"Point. Hmmm...has Fandom ever repeated itself?"

He thought about that, having moved on to scratch Faithful between the shoulders. "I don't think so. Not with anything big anyway, not since we got here."

"So probably no trolls or zombies in our future." Alanna mused out loud.

"If we're lucky."

At that point, the genie bottle that had been hidden under the bed rolled out of its own accord and nudged Kawalsky's foot. He quickly snatched it up with a free hand and shoved it back under the bed.

It rolled right back out, taking the long route, out of Charlie's grasp, until it settled back in front of both of them. "No!" he hissed at the bottle.

Jeannie took that as an invitation. She blinked into appearance.
