Yesterday was absolutely awesome. Best day ever even despite getting my butt burned! Mike and I started off the day at 4:15AM. We got up and packed the car and made some breakfast. We then headed onto campus to watch the sun rise while sitting in front of McKeldin at the top of the mall. It was really fantastic! The sun hitting all the trees was beautiful. There was even some guy by the sundial playing his guitar. While we were eating our breakfast there a little bird came by and started flying in our faces and all around us. He got very close and just wouldn't leave. So we figured he knew we had food and we tore off some of our bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches for him. Well he ate a little bit of it and then we saw him wiping his beak on the sidewalk to get extra cheese off . . . . and we think he may have been a little insulted that we tried to feed him eggs. Naturally Mike named him Eggo. Eggo came back with a friend later who had the weirdest hop we had ever seen. He would shake his wings and butt while he did it. I named him hoppy butt bird of course!
So we made the trek to OC after sunrise. There was barely any traffic and we got to OC by 9amish. We spent some time pointing out different places we had stayed to each other and trying to find the restaurant we wanted to eat at that night. We didn't find it until later after asking his mom for directions :)
Next stop was the beach itself. When we got there hardly anyone was there so we got a prime spot. It filled up as the day progressed though. MAN was that water COLD!! We got all the way in once and stayed for a few minutes, but Mike was starving and wanted to eat so we went back to the blanket. We couldn't bear to get in again so we spent the rest of the time on the blanket talking, reading, sleeping etc. It was really nice. I started the book Quianna gave me about the other Boleyn girl. It's amazing and I don't want to put it down! I buried Mike in sand and while I was laying there talking to him I feel asleep and so did he. I have no idea how he managed to fall asleep covered in sand. It would have driven me insane!
So after we finished at the beach we went back to the car and changed for the rest of the day. We went to Dough Rollers (YUM!!!) for lunch and when I went to stand up I realized my butt was really hurting. I put on a ton of sunblock but my pale didn't care, it burned. Turns out I burned my lower back, upper back, chest, one butt cheek/upper thigh, and lips. The butt burn is by far the worst and it is horribly painful to do anything. That's usually how my first trip into the sun in the summer goes though and after that I get a bit better.
Next we played mini golf at an old pro near 25th street that had dragons! It was pretty cheap and we ended up wishing we had gone across the street, but it was really fun anyway. I mean come on, it had dragons! Mike got a ton of good pictures today and hopefully they will be up on the website some point soon.
We then went to our last parking space of the day, right in front of our restaurant Bahama Mama's. Mike picked it because their outdoor area faces the sunset. We had some time to kill so we went onto the boardwalk. I got some Fisher's popcorn for my family (because we are helping Amy move this weekend), I got Mike a new shark tooth necklace and he got me a new ring. When we went to OC NJ in high school I got him a shark tooth necklace and he got me a ring. Since then he has had several other necklaces because they keep breaking and I wear my ring on a necklace because it cuts my finger and turns it green. It is kept for sentimental reasons. Mike and I also consider June 21st our half way between birthdays day because his is on May 21 and I am July 21 so we always try to get each other a little gift. I really like all the neat traditions in our relationship. It really makes it special.
After some people watching we went to dinner. We got MD crab soups, I got a crab cake sandwich and we got a soft crab sandwich (which really creepyed my out eww!). It was a great dinner and they had this guy there singing all sorts of beachy tunes. It kept reminding Mike of the Clue movie. Dinner was fantastic and we tried to watch the sun set but a storm was rolling in and blocked it out. I would say that we did make a good use of all the daylight yesterday though! We made a last stop at Dumsers for some ice cream and headed home. It was a long drive and we both sang to keep each other awake. We totally crashed when we got back.
It was such an awesome day! I hope we do it again soon. Thank you Mike! I love you Babyman.
