She took a deep breath and fell back in her seat. It was another first day of a new school and she was sick of it. She ever made new friends, she never got in the right groups. To her, school was just extended periods of time when she still wasn't like everyone else. She closed her eyes, opened her car door and prepared for the start of her "new adventure" as her mom put it. Swinging her bag over her shoulder she headed for the main office.
The school was pretty big by most standards, but in all other aspects, the school looked and smelled like every other school she had been to. She was early and not a lot of students were around. That was okay, she didn't really do that "make new friends" thing well. She hesitated and opened the door to the office and slowly stepped up to the office desk.
She approached the lady sitting at the front desk. She wore a green, two-piece, dress-suit and her dark hair was sprayed up in a very outdated hairstyle. "Hey, um, I'm Kiira and it's my first day. I guess I need a schedule and a map or something." She smiled nervously and eyed the office. It too looked like every other office in every other school. The desks were cluttered and the room had an empty feeling about it.
"Oh honey, welcome to Lincoln High. Yes, I've heard that you were coming, I have this all set up." the woman drawled in a odd, deep accent. She rustled around her desk and pulled out a packet of papers and handed it to Kiira. There was maps and information papers, and pinned to the top was what looked like a schedule. Chemistry, algebra, advanced art, lunch, music theory, english, history and study hall; the same classes she left at her old school. "And honey, I have Kevin coming in a few minutes and he will show you around before classes start. He's real kind and cute too, you'll like him," she gave an exaggerated wink. "So, you can just wait over there in those chairs and look over your papers."
Kiira nodded slightly and muttered a thank you, heading over to a chair on the other side of the room. The papers were the same, she ignored them and put them in her bag. She waited in silence watching the clock; it was seven o'clock. It was the same, it was all the same; every little detail. She sighed, closed her eyes and leaned back.
"Hey sweetie, you must be... Kiira? I'm Kyle, and I'm going to show you around today. Nice to meet you." A soft hand came down on Kiira's shoulder and shook her gently. She looked up and saw dark, curly brown hair and deep hazel eyes. He was smiling a ear-to-ear smile and she noticed he had a few dark freckled sprinkled across his cheeks. She stood up straight and pulled her hand away when he saw her eyes open.
"Oh, yeah, I'm Kiira. Nice to meet you." She stood up and looked at the clock; seven twenty-three. Taking his hand and giving it a shake she turned. "What time does class start?"
"Eight o'clock, and I believe we have a few classes together, so maybe I can introduce you to some people as well."
