So I started listening to Guns n Roses Use Your Illusion I and realized this was the first rock album I ever bought. I really loved November Rain and the video. When I went to a used record store with my mom on South Street (in Philly) I saw the Use Your Illusion I CD and thought what the heck I'll just buy the whole album. Ah...for the days of record/CD stores. Now they're just places hipsters hang out. Anyways, I remember getting home and listening to the whole album and just being blown away. I loved every song from Right Next Door to Hell to Coma. Being African American I grew up in a primarily RnB household. Though my Mom would come home with the odd rock-type album like The Police, she rarely liked rock music. My Mom also did love Welcome to the Jungle funny enough, but she never bought it home.
Guns n Roses actually began my love of rock in the 90's. I started listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and of course my 7 year love affair with Metallica LOL! But listening to Use Your Illusion I I realize this album has REALLY stood the test of time. It rarely sounds dated and its just so good. Why did Axl Rose have to be such a douche nozzle. This band could have been the Rolling Stones and lasted forever if he was willing to actually work with people. But I guess because of the and I quote "lame ass security" Axl went home!
