Paul D. Fusz Sr., former owner of a Buick dealership, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) from complications from a seizure at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield. He was 50 and a resident of Wildwood.
Mr. Fusz was born in St. Louis. He was a 1971 graduate of DeSmet Jesuit High School in Creve Coeur. He later attended Regis University in Denver.
He started in the family business, Lou Fusz Automotive Network Inc., one of the region's largest car dealerships. As a youth he began by washing cars on the lot, worked in sales and eventually became a sales manager.
In 1979, Mr. Fusz opened his own dealership, Fusz Buick, at Manchester and Clarkson roads. In 1990, he merged his dealership with the family's Lou Fusz Automotive Network Inc., where he stayed on with the company in managerial positions.
Mr. Fusz was active in coaching youth basketball teams. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed sports and a good cigar every now and then.
Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road in Ballwin. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Alban Roe Catholic Church, 2001 Shepard Road, Wildwood. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Among the survivors are his wife, Linda Swearingen Fusz; a son, Paul Downard Fusz Jr.; two daughters, Meghan Suzanne Fusz and Kathryn Fusz; his parents, Louis J. Fusz Sr. and Martha Fusz of Creve Coeur; four brothers, Louis J. Fusz Jr., Daniel D. Fusz and Philip R. Fusz, all of Ladue, and Eugene A. Fusz of Palm Beach, Fla.; six sisters, Marie Reine Fusz Bitting of West Palm Beach, Fla., Anne Fusz Grace and Eliza Fusz Whittemore, both of North Palm Beach, Fla., Martha "Missy" Fusz Ramey of Town and Country, Josephine Fusz King of Frontenac and Lucie Fusz Tonon of Charlotte, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of the St. Louis Region, 7100 Oakland Avenue, St. Louis, Mo. 63117; or St. Louis Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 500522, St. Louis, Mo. 63150-0522.
