Too much good TV to watch...

Don't often rec shows as I'm usually the last to see them. I have a dearth of shows to catch up with - 24, lost, BSG, Deadwood. Somehow ended up watching Jericho instead. Post apocalyptic, small town America and how they cope with the aftermath of a nuclear bomb. I'm pimping it to ya'...if it should ever appear over here that is.

It stars Skeet Ulrich (a fine actor, whose level of hotness is growing on me. Damn, I'm 33, really should stop eyeing up the TV totty) and we meet some of the main characters on the day a bomb falls on their nearest city. The first couple of eps are just a mad scramble of getting out the way of fallout (and lots of OMG! screaming and confused, disbelieving souls), but it's worth sticking through to get to Eps 3 & 4 because there is a mystery to be solved, several in fact, of the twisty turny variety. I don't want to say too much for reasons of spoilage, but every time I've experienced a slight lull (of the "hmmm...it's a good show, but my attention is drifting" variety)...kerchunk...something twistier comes along.

The only aspects that let it down slightly are - I wish it were darker (I'm a chaos demon)...but it's showing signs of heading that way. It's initially focussed on a small, tight knit community so perhaps it's believable that they'd settle down to things better than some would. Slowly though, the focus has begun to pull back from Jericho and by about halfway through S1 you begin to get an idea of how things are working in the outside world.

not on the level of some of shows I mentioned above, but I hold out mucho hopes, especially as a second season is in the offing...

In case you wish for something of a darker nature, I stumbled across a fanvid for a new show made by keiko_kirin a while back. Vid can be streamed from immem here;

The vid is a general type intro so not really spoilerish, but Keiko's vid grabbed me from the off, especially the Blade Runner-esque landscapes - even on imeem, it LOOKS good. The vid focuses on the antagonist and he doesn't feature until a few eps in, but from keiko's vid, I reckon he's nicely insane and bad enough to keep my attention. So here you go...

Charlie Jade... the name nearly made me run away in terror. I figured this was some dreadful, girly teen show. Boy was I wrong! It's set in South Africa, so a nice change from the hackneyed, generic American skylines everywhere. Set in the future, with a very weird 80's synthersiser background track (think cheap porn music) and with a talkover style by the main characters that reminds me of the old b/w private eye shows. Which is fitting, because that is what Charlie Jade is - a missing persons PI. Yeah, so it took a bit of getting used to, this wierd style, and again like Jericho it takes a few eps to get going. In fact, I'm only a few eps in myself, so have no idea where this is going, but..heh...Blade Runner-esque.

And it involves alternate dimensions.
