Summary: Hawke overhears a conversation between Anders and Fenris. My take on some banter.

A Story Being Told
“You’re beautiful, deadly, and hang out with fantastic dwarves. It would be a crime if people didn’t talk about you.”
Hawke chuckled, “Varric, remind me to buy you a drink next time I’m here.”
“You are too kind messere.”
As Hawke headed towards the stairs to leave, voices drifting up from below caught her attention.
“I always knew she had some sense,” Anders smirked.
“Do not make light of this,” Fenris shot back. “Leaving was the hardest thing I've ever done.”
The words pulled at wounds she had hoped were healed. Hawke peered around the corner and down the narrow stairs; the two were tensely glaring at each other. She could sense Varric standing beside her. “I guess you won’t be writing any epic romances about me,” she said with a hint of sadness.
“You never know Buttercup; there’s a lot of story left to tell.”
She managed a weak smile for his benefit.
In the bar below Anders had turned glumly towards the fire. The former slave looked up, his wide green eyes meeting hers. Fenris held her gaze for a few moments then sighed and bowed his head.
One more moment they would pretend never happened.
“Thanks Varric,” she said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Anytime Hawke.”
Drawing herself up and shaking off the painful emotions, Hawke headed downstairs to gather her companions.
