A chara, Dear Friend of Celtic Studies,
Comhghairdeas! Congratulations are in order. Please join us in congratulating our students on the fine accomplishment of completing their certificate studies this Friday, May 11th at the UWM Hefter Center, located at 3271 N. Lake Drive in Milwaukee. The reception will begin at 4:30pm with delightful traditional music from the band Cé, whose members are matriculated Center for Celtic Studies students. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Certificates will be presented at 5:00pm. At 5:15pm, there will be a presentation from Associate Professor Tim McMahon of the Marquette University History Department. He will speak on The Centrality of Language in Modern Ireland. Professor McMahon is an Irish Historian who received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. His research focuses on modern Irish and British history and especially on the study of national identity and its expressions through popular culture; his latest book The Gaelic Revival and Irish Society is forthcoming from University of Syracuse Press.
