Merlin 3.06 - The One With the Ordinary Princess
I think I may be in the minority, because I haven't been finding Merlin as bad as everyone makes out. That's not to say that I'm not distinctly unimpressed by the Merlin/Arthur relationship of late what with "DeGayification 2010: Bonding through Bullying"
GMK was lovely, clumsy and half George-like from the Famous Five, half Amy from the Ordinary Princess. Was anyone else disappointed when it was the sí that was giving her unruly hair and clumsiness? I would have preferred it if she had pretty much stayed the same, if only a little more genteel. This whole 'magic your frizz away with Sí-Ease' didn't sit well with me (for some strange reason, nothing at all to do with my bedhead in the mornings)
I love when they bring people like Giaus into it, I'm not that interested in that Morgause/Morgana storyline. Mercifully, Morgana's EvilSmirkofDoom has been toned down to EvilSideEye of Mayhem. And while I'm at it, why on earth was she stirring things with Gwen who'd done nothing to her. Yes, I can understand that she was stirring things up to make things difficult for Arthur (well no I can't, he's never done anything terrible to her about from being his father's son)
I just don't get her motivations - I know she hates Uther and wants to get the crown, so Arthur's part of a problem she needs to take care of. Why she was forcing a marriage was kind of doubling her problem as Elena's dad would no doubt ride to a son-in-law's aid. I don't geddit. And for some reason, her hatred of Uther has morphed into a hatred of Camelot, which is quite a turn about from someone who always challenged Uther about protecting his people.
So in short, Morgana makes no sense at the moment. Am I missing some key element?
Poor Angel Coulby, stuck with an entire season of 'we can never be, not that we've had much screentime together mind, but our love really is epic, please trust us on this, we have an orchestral theme and everything'. Do you think she, like us, wishes for a return to S1 Solving Crimes With BFF Merlin storylines?
