Halloween Special; A Note from The Others

A letter to the Sims of Nouveau (my BaCC that I've been posting on Tumblr)

One day while working at the post office, Sally found a really large raven perched on the bushes next to the front door. Attached to it's leg was a chunk of paper, folded so many times over to look like a little flat brick. She opened the door and the raven flew inside and just decided to chill on the rack of postcards on the counter. Inside the bundle was a treasure trove. Despite feeling her heart ache from the pain of losing her sisters, she felt excitement to know that the others they left behind when they started on this trek were surviving too.

To the sims of Nouveau,

Hey you guys, this is Emilia. It's been quite a long time (21 years, can you believe it?) since you left and I wanted to try and let you guys know what's been going down back here.

We're surviving! Well, some of us. Circe and Loki Beaker happened to have a large underground bunker where many of us are now living. There's a few other pockets of us left throughout the rest of the city, but this bunker holds the largest number of us.

There's a different threat here. It was originally just Townies, but then we saw one of our own released from the facilities. It was Beau Broke. They just let him walk out the front door. Oberon sent a group of three of us out to pick him up headed up by his brother Dustin. Dustin had been the one driving and walked around the car to get closer to speak with Beau, and Beau looked up at him and just launched himself at Dustin. At first it looked like a hug but then Dustin was screaming and they turned sideways as Dustin toppled backwards from Beau's weight. That's when we saw the blood pouring from Dustin's neck from where Beau had ripped flesh from him. We were in complete shock, but Bianca Monty was second in command and she reacted so quickly. She was yelling for me to get back in the vehicle. I wasn't really that far out of the door, but I slid back in and slammed it shut the same time Bianca had jumped into the driver's seat and reached out to shut the driver's door that Dustin had left open. That's when a child monster darted past the car and bit into Bianca's arm. I didn't think, I just reacted. I shot the child monster in the head to get it off of Bianca. She was able to drive us both back to base, but the infection from the monster's mouth was nasty. Even with Dr. Beaker working to clean the wound and treat it, Bianca got a fever and died soon after. In retrospect, Dr. Beaker mentioned something about amputation to stop the infection. It seemed horrifying even after what I had just witnessed. That was nineteen years ago. The child had been a Citizen, I'm sure, but I never saw it's face.

So we've moved what's left of the Citizens underground. Into bunkers and basements and bad-weather shelters. It started with just abducted Citizens that were monsters. Let out the front door. We learned after Dustin though. Don't get out of the car, keep your weapons loaded and on target. And don't let family be the ones to go pick them up. Soon we realized that none of the sims the Facility was letting go were whole. They were all monsters. Fast moving, flesh eating monsters. Ripp called them zombies first and it stuck. He said Hal was a zombie when ORT went down (Operation Rescue and Torch), the night before Evac--that's what we call it when we talk about you all leaving. I'm hoping Hal didn't turn out like these. If so, I guess either you figured out what to do or you're all dead. I hope you're not dead.

The zombies would only die if you shot them in the head. The general population of Townies must not have been notified because soon they were being decimated as well. At least we were already doing pretty well at defense. Who we were fighting is all that really changed. When Citizens went underground, the Facility started abducting Townies too. It was about six years ago when we learned that when the newer generation of zombies bites, the sim dies and then comes back as a zombie. An entire Citizen bunker (Bunker 6) was taken out because someone didn't say they were bitten on the ankle and figured they'd just die in their bed. Lost quite a few people in that debacle.

There's about 84 Citizens left. Some of the children have never even seen daylight because it's too risky to take them out of the bunker. From what we can gather there are no Townies left, unless they are hiding extremely well. And the Townies that ran the Facility? Chowed down on by their own monsters. We're pretty sure the government of SimCity has collapsed, so if you stopped receiving transmissions from them, that's why.

So that's what's happened. Now, let me introduce you to who's left. And if we can get this letter to you, who knows, maybe there's a way to get us to you as well. There's only photographs from our bunker, Bunker 2, because I don't want Cressida traveling just to take photographs. I apologize for the forlorn looks on everyone's faces. We had just had a very trying day. Dr. Beaker had just left after performing surgery on Annie, my sister-in-law. Annie got bit on the arm and Circe amputated it, and then connected the tissue to the robotic arm she and Loki had developed.

Bunker 1 - lives above ground; in Beaker Castle, Strangetown

Circe and Loki Beaker had two children, Thor and Freya. Freya had followed in her mother's medical footsteps and was the acting as the leading physician in Bunker 6 before it went down. Circe, 63; Loki, 64; Thor, 24

Maxis Curious, Pascal's first son. Pascal and the rest of his children (three others) were trying to help clear an abandoned building that was going to be used as another bunker. Unfortunately it collapsed. We tried to get through the rabble but the sound of the collapse called all the zombies around. We were unable to retrieve their bodies. Maxis, 31

Vidcund and his only son, Marshall Curious. This was the last alien abduction recorded in SimCity. Aliens didn't want anything to do with our strife. Vidcund, 64; Marshall, 27

Nina Caliente and her niece Mina Goth. Dina was abducted while Mina was still a child. They never got a letter saying she passed. Mina is secretly terrified she';s going to find her mother as a zombie. Nina, 61; Mina, 36

Kimberly, Kelli, Samantha, Seth, and Shane Cordial. Armand DeBateau had a bad tendency to use pet names and therefore had no idea he was dating two different sims. Both sisters got pregnant at the same time too, furthering Armand's blindness to their separateness. When both Kim and Sam called him on the day they were to give birth he was stumped, and when he showed up, he was mortified to have realized he had duped the women by accident. Unfortunately, he died in a scavenging run last year. Kim & Sam, 55; Kelli, Seth, Shane 3

Mary and Nathan Gavigan are still working to create weapons. Mary used to smuggle them in artwork maintaining a Townie-friendly facade until our enemy changed. Mary, 63; Nathan, 69

Bunker 2 - lives underground; Beaker Compound (under Beaker Castle), Strangetown

Melody Tinker married David Ottomas and had two children, before the zombies. Melody and Garrett had gone on patrol and Serafina had taken her mother for a walk.
