9:30 a.m.: Wake up. Realize it's Sunday and the only thing I have to look forward to is laundry and birthday present shopping. Promptly refuse to get out bed.
10:30 a.m.: Wake up and turn on 1970s version of Persuasion. Wince at different types of cameras used for indoor and outdoor shots and wonder if a polyester mix has been used on all the gentleman's trousers. Still refuse to get out of bed.
11:00 a.m.: Go shopping with Jill. After finding present for sister, attempt to replace jeans that were the greatest victim of Snowpocalyse 2.0. This proceeds terribly when the preferred jean fit is no longer available and everything looks terrible. Nothing quite like a shopping fail.
2:00 p.m.: Continue Persuasion. Fantasize about learning how to direct and actually putting together a production that does the book justice.
3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Take nap and dream that Jill has adopted lions that seem to love Emily, Jill and I but scare men off. There may also have been a kidnapping ring but that's not of any consequence.
6:00 p.m.: Help Emily prepare for big Valentine's day date. Curl hair, weigh in on dresses. Consult on tights and type of boot.
Emily: Should I sit down so you can do my hair?
Katie: That would make things easier.
Emily: I'll just straddle the toilet then.
Katie: Sexier words were never spoken.
7:00 p.m.: Greet Pierce. Help Pierce find a restaurant. Run from the room during exchange of gifts. Despite repeated cries that I could return. Things were taking an awkward turn...
8:00 p.m.:
Jill: Want to get dinner?
Katie: Yeah. I was thinking Italian Pizza Kitchen.
Jill: Me too!
Katie: What do you want to order?
Jill: Oh, well. I thought we could go eat there.
Katie: Go...Just the two of us?
Jill: Yes
Katie: On Valentines day? I dunno. Pierce said it was crowded.
Jill: I'll call and reserve us a table.
Katie:...
Jill: All set.
Katie: Jill, did you just ask me out for Valentine's day? Are we going on a date?
Jill: Yes! I have Glenned you into going out with me on Valentine's.
Katie: But you're going to D***'s house later for a Free Willy date. Is this to make up for the fact that you're leaving me alone on Valentine's day?
Jill: No! I had this planned from the beginning of the week!...in a normal way. I just didn't tell you till now because...
Katie: You thought you needed to trick me? Oh okay let's go.
8:30: Italian Pizza Kitchen *filled with dangling hearts* Piano player *plays jazz accompaniment to cd*
Katie: Um...This is romantic!
Jill: All my dreams have been realized!
Katie: I think our waiter is disappointed that we aren't on a date.
Jill: What! We're not? I'm disappointed too.
9:00: Return to house. Read feminist lit-crit by YA authors and feminist articles on female writers.
10:00: Do laundry and watch pairs on couch in bathrobe. Sexy. Fail to make conversation with cute guy in laundry room. Only topic of conversation seems to be, so you too? Decide that comes off as desperate and just try not to stare creepily. Eat icecream out of Aladdin mug.
11:00: Watch new version of Sense and Sensibility. Am charmed despite myself. Hard to beat Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, but that doesn't mean it's not great in its own different way. Perhaps I need to own this one too?
12:00: Go to sleep, because unlike the rest of DC. My institution named after a former United States President does not celebrate President's day.
