More Than Friends (Part Two)

After a very enjoyable meal, Remus and I started on sorting out the Book Lice.

“They’re fairly easy to get rid of,” said Remus as we entered the dining room, “Especially if you catch them early, which we haven’t, unfortunately.  Dad can’t bear to exterminate them - he thinks they’re interesting.  Never marry a Magi-zoologist, Tonks; you’ll spend ( Read more... )

Oh, what a great little story this is! Congrats to you for persevering and finishing it, and especially congrats for writing your longest fic to-date!

I liked so much about this fic it's hard to know where to start, much like Tonks' dilemma. ;) Which I guess means I should start with her narrative voice, which I just loved. It really served to give this fic a Tonksy feel -- she made me smile with all her hemming and hawing about the signs Remus was sending her! And P&P fan that I am, I do love the idea of seeing Remus on his own territory being the thing that solidifies her attraction to him.

The house is just what I'd expect, cluttered and eclectic and lived-in and comfortable, just like Remus, and his parents' jobs are perfect -- the idea of Remus having gotten his love of Magical Creatures from his father really works; and I see he's inherited a bit of his mother's sewing skill to be able to mend his robes. ;) The backstory is so bittersweet, as I imagine the Lupin family must be; the condition of SMD is simply heart-breaking, but kudos to you for coming up with a Wizarding equivalent of some of our Muggle diseases. Really creative of you!

I love seeing them work together to do two things at once. They really are the perfect couple!

Thanks very much for this fic. I hope you're proud of it!

Oh thanks! I can't beleive how long it's taken me - this fic just grew and grew, I thought I'd never get to the end!

*blushes* You're so sweet! I'm so glad you liked Tonks' voice, since I went to great lengths to get it right. It was interesting trying to balance her very colloquial style with the necessary amount of more formal narrative. (Not sure if that last sentance made any sense at all, lol) It was great fun writing all her musings on Remus' behaviour, especially since Remus, bless him, was completely oblivious.

I never spotted the P&P analogy until I was at least halfway through, but it does rather fit, doesn't it?

I'm also so pleased you like the house - I have such a clear image of it in my mind, and it's so lovely. I've always thought of Remus' parents as liberal-minded intellectual sorts, with his mother also being on the creative side, and those jobs seemed to fit both them and the characteristics Remus could have inherited.

I know, they've not had an easy time of it, poor people; not one, but two menbers of the family suffering from chronic illness. I'm glad the disease felt believable to you though - it was certainly interesting coming up with a name for it.

Thanks very much for this fic. I hope you're proud of it!

Thanks! I think I am, I'm never sure of what I've written immediately afterwards, but I'm proud of the fact that I've tried a lot of new things - I think I've really pushed myself this time.
