A good movie

The human has been watching a movie called The Winter Guest which stars Emma Thompson and her mother, Phyllida Law, as mother and daughter. But even better, from my perspective, it features outstanding performances by two really adorable little kittens. You know they have to be adorable because one of them looks almost exactly like me! She seems to act like me too, because the boy* who adopts her cuddles her under his shirt and tells his friend, "She's licking me. She likes me." The two boys decide that "they should bring kittens with the milk once every three months. Make the world a better place." Now who says there is no wisdom to be gained from watching movies?

Okay, I admit, the kittens do not have a really large part in the film. But they do get a line in the credits (Kittens, followed by two human-sounding first and last names, so perhaps it means the handlers, but you never know. My name and Gretacat's and Smiley Dog's and Big Blonde's are included on the human's home answering machine message - just in case our agent calls and wants to leave a message for one of us.). And you know what they say: There are no bit parts, just bit kittens ... no just kit actors ... no, that's not quite it either ... just little bitty kitties ... something like that!

* The boy who adopts the kitten that looks and acts just like me is played by Sean Biggerstaff, who later played Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor Quidditch team captain, in the first couple of Harry Potter** movies. So, even though I still believe the J. K. Rowling has inadequate respect and affection for cats, at least some people associated with the movies understand the true role of kittens in the world!

**Sean Biggerstaff is not the only person associated with the film with a connection to the Harry Potter films.*** Emma Thompson plays Professor Trelawney in a couple of the films, and the director/co-screenwriter of The Winter Guest is Alan Rickman, who plays Snape in the HP movies.

***Considering that Rowling stipulated that all the actors in the films had to be British or Irish, there are probably a lot of these connections to any British film made in the past 15 years or so. It could be a game sort of like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon.

why cats rule, harry potter, movies, winter guest
