Far from the Madding Crowd by
Thomas Hardy My rating:
5 of 5 stars I am reading a Kindle edition - as part of the complete work. It is the one I have enjoyed the most - possibly because there is more happiness in this one than others of Hardy's books. I also found the characters more interesting and believable than in the other books we have read as part of our virtual reading group so far. Oak being steadfast by name and nature is a little predictable. I found that the description of farm life and the farm year was particularly interesting and absorbing.
A passionate tale of the beautiful, headstrong farmer Bathsheba Everdene and her three suitors. It introduces the fictional name of "Wessex" to describe Hardy's legendary countryside, and draws a vivid picture of rural life in southwest England.
