So I know I've been away for a while...I guess grad school can do that to a person. It's been a busy year, two internships, two jobs, and still at the same school. Things have been going well. I've somehow managed to keep up a 3.893 GPA while doing this balancing act of life.
It gets tough sometimes...I get really stressed out which sometimes causes me to get sick. It's what happens when you're making your way through a seven day a week schedule of work, school, and practicum. Luckily this semester I will have most of each Wednesday available to do some self care. Maybe I'll get back to playing my guitar again. I have not touch it since that Obama Fundraiser I was apart of.
In other news, I do not think I ever mentioned here that last May I ended up getting married. His name is Gordon. We met each other in college and dated. He's a good guy, I love him dearly. We also have two adorable kittens named Nicka and Hopscotch. They are sisters and are 6 months old. So in a way we are like a family. I'm not sure when I'll have children though...probably not for at least another year or two. I need to finish my last two semesters of grad school and this practicum before I even think about doing that.
I have to say, I am getting many creative ideas these days. Since leaving Studentscout and starting at Norwood Crossing, I find that I constantly have new ideas pop up each week. I think I am going to work on a book during the few free hours I will have. It's going to be about a woman named Kaylin, fresh out of college, who is on a road to self discovery. This book will be a fiction and is inspired by the songs from Lenka, her music was featured on the show Ugly Betty. I have already contact Lenka via myspace to let her know of my plans. This is the message I sent her:
To Whom It May Concern:
I got interested in Lenka's music after hearing it on the commercials for Ugly Betty. I have been listening to her CD ever since and have found that it has inspired me to write a book based on the songs.
I wanted to contact Lenka or have this message forwarded to her to see if it is okay for me to write this book. The plan I have is to break the book into 11 parts based on the 11 songs on the cd. I would like to include the lyrics of her songs in the book before each section begins.
Should this book ever be published or finished, I would like to make sure I get the legal okay from Lenka before doing anything big with it.
I have just barely begun writing the book and would most certainly like to send the finished version of the book to Lenka to make sure that it is something she would be glad to represent.
The premise of the book is centered around a 20-something old female, fresh out of college, who goes on a journey of self-discovery through love, mistakes, her career, and her successes. The songs by Lenka would provide the skeleton/backbone to the story.
Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Kaleena Marquez
A dedicated fan
Yesterday I received a response from Lenka personally. I guess she is the one who takes care of her own myspace page which is cool.

Thanks Kaleena!
Yes, you would most certainly need to get legal approval, i have a publishing deal with Sony/atv, so they co-own those lyrics. There would need to be approval and compensation.
But i love that you have this idea and i think you should go ahead and do it!
When you have some of it finished, please contact me again and i'll tell you where to send a copy.
Thanks,
Lenka.
I have to say I was happily surprised by this. I might set the book up journal style as though Kaylin just left the journal somewhere for any stranger (the reader) to pick up and explore.
