Well, you've already realized that Agent Carter has eaten my brain, especially if you've been over on Tumblr and seen all my posts on the subject. It's a severe case of honeymoon phase - I count down days and hours until the next ep, I go up earlier to see the ep before work, I google it daily and check Tumblr for new posts. I can't even write fic anymore, because my brain keeps getting distracted. A good thing there are only two more eps!
The weird thing is, Sousa's my sweet precious puppy, but I still ship Peggy more with Angie than with him. I feel that fandom isn't set up to have your OTC in a show be separate from your OTP. Especially the femslash side of this fandom, which is very "ew, boys" and our-ships-will-be-canon-or-else. Like, I started off squeeing over the response Cartinelli got and now I don't even want to go into the tag anymore.
Anyway. Obviously, even with my brain eaten, I can still watch other shows:
Agents of SHIELD, to fill in between the other agent eps. Someone mentioned on Facebook that ep 4 was set in Sweden, so of course I had to watch that far, and then I've watched a couple more. It's not terribly interesting, but enough to keep me watching. Funnily enough, I think it helps that I'm a bit spoiled, because one of the most interesting aspects is watching Ward infiltrate the team, and the signs that SHIELD is shady as fuck in general. (Seriously, though, am I surprised that this guy in particular is attracted to a fascist ideology? No, not at all.)
The Swedishness of ep 4 was sadly just windowdressing, which makes me wonder what the point was. I mean, fun for the crew to travel the world and all, but why Sweden after only four eps? You could have gone to Venice or the Bahamas, guys. Though it's always fun to recognize Stockholm on screen. :-)
I do wonder why all the women on the team look the same. I mean, not exactly the same, because they all have different ethnicities and Ming-Na Wen is twice as old as the others, but they're all the same height and size and with roughly the same haircuts, and none of them have facial features that really stand out. It's a good thing their personalities are so different or I'd be as lost as Humpty Dumpty in Through the Looking Glass.
Jane the Virgin, which I've only seen two eps of, but which is so far as delightful as people say. For the first ten minutes, I was worried that it might turn out to be too twee for me to take, like Pushing Daisies, but then I was laughing my ass off and stopped worrying entirely. It's not quite the same as having Ugly Betty on my screen again, but it's a) close enough and b) has a charm all of its own.
If I'm to have any complaints so far, it's that Raf is a tad too generic soap hunk for my tastes, but all that means is that I have more attention to spare for the lovely ladies, so I don't mind.
Speaking of lovely ladies, Call the Midwife is just as wonderful as always. I'm amazed at how they come up with so many well-written, emotional storylines, where you care not just about the main characters but about the guest stars as well. In one recent ep, a couple lost a baby, and I was a sobbing mess. For the guest stars! (In comparison, Dollhouse killed off four regulars in its last few episodes and all I felt was mild irritation.)
It's funny, though, I don't feel the need to watch CTW all that often. Maybe it's because I don't want to be reduced to a sobbing mess all the time. But I think it also has to do with the show not being all that serialized. Yes, things change over the episodes - and seasons - but I can't claim to be all that enthralled about Trixie's engagement or Sister Evangelina's health issues. I just want them to do their jobs and be awesome.
And even more babies on the way in Extant - I have now seen three episodes, and it's kind of slowing to a lull compared to the pilot which I really liked. On the upside, the kid is amazing. I don't usually praise child actors, but child actors aren't usually given roles like this. Halle Berry is stretching her acting muscles a little too, and Camryn Manheim and Goran Visnjic are inherently likeable, so I do enjoy the cast. Plus, you know, a few more eps will bring me Enver, so that's nice and we're back to Agent Carter again. :-)
Oh, and I'm also rewatching Leverage to follow Mark Watches. I'm supposed to be doing Star Trek as well, but I lagged behind on that one and have only made it to halfway through season 2. I do like it better than I thought, though - some eps are really good. I'll try again for TNG, have even placed bids on some auctions for the DVDs.
I never did finish Farscape, so that's twice I've given up in the fourth season. I don't know what it is about the fourth season that makes me not want to watch it.
Finally, Sanzoku no Musume Ronja is still cute, but now that we're past the Big Dramatic Episode it's starting to slow down again, and I find myself longing for the finale. Altogether, I like the show, but I do think stretching it out to 26 eps is a mistake and what ultimately ranks it far below the movie in terms of adaptations. (Well, that, and my childhood nostalgia for the movie.)
It's kind of fun to watch non-Swedish fans react to the amount of freedom Mattis and Lovis are giving Ronja, because I've known the character since I was kindergarten age, so to me it was completely natural that she was old enough to run through the forest alone and that no one would force her to come home when she ran away. Of course, Ronja in the anime doesn't exactly look 12, either.
