I know nothing about Haven, but when I see your pic posts on tumblr, I always think "Oh! It's JDB! but with a longer face and slightly less attractive." Less enough that I don't find him attractive, but with enough resemblance that I thought he was Spanish.
They are pretty similar! I don't know that I find one more attractive than the other, and I think EB is gorgeous though it doesn't always come through in still photos. (And there are those aesthetic nudes of him around that I find smoking hot. See? I'm not above shallowness.)
Hmmm. I'd have to brave the cesspool to see the context, but my first reaction is that Eric Balfour *is* very non-standard in terms of 'regular-looking' guys in US/Canadian media, what with the long narrow face, long chin, and, yes, big nose - and a lot of folks are not very good about non-standard looks, and so, yes, will say terrible things about it/them/him. And he has been working the greasy hair thing lately

Well, the "cesspool" is imdb, and I don't expect any better from imdb, because it's full of shit-stirrers, so they'll post things like "his ethnicity is part horse" just because it's their idea of funny. That doesn't even count.
But when, in polite conversations in places like TWoP or Tumblr, similar sentiments pop up just phrased nicer, it gets much more uncomfortable, to me.
And he has been working the greasy hair thing lately...
I don't even like the word "greasy" for it, because greasy to me implies unwashed and it doesn't feel unwashed. It's quite possible that he puts stuff in it, but darker, glossier hair doesn't necessarily look bad with stuff put in it.
I like that he is non-standardly handsome ?Me too! And I feel kind of weird calling this stuff out, because I'm still working from the premise that it's okay to find certain things hot and discuss how hot various people are, which of course could be seen as problematic in itself

I don't know the fandom, but I do know TWOP can get weirdly focused on looks, although my best example is Megan from Mad Men. There's a lot of really bizarre focus on her mouth - she has prominent teeth - and from the way some people discuss her on TWOP you'd think she was some sort of hideous beast who should have cosmetic surgery to spare us all the horror of having to look at her. It's really off-putting.
Oh, and I forgot to say - Eric Balfour always makes me think he should be in Musketeer costume. He's definitely non-conventional, but to me he reads as one of those vintage faces.

I'd pay good money to see Eric Balfour in a costume drama!
