In which hating on actual women is anti-misogynist, or something.

So, in response to the death threats sent to Amanda Abbington and the cyber-bullying of Caitlin Blackwood, all because they quite like Steven Moffat, I posted the following on Tumblr:

So, to sum up: people are now “battling misogyny” by harassing little girls and sending death threats to women who disagree with them.

I hereby forbid people that stupid from using four-syllable words like “misogyny” at all. They can make do with the vocabulary of “Sam’s Cookie” and stick figure drawings.

I now have some further things to add:

1. Having checked the English-language edition of "Sam's Cookie", that one's actually too advanced - I was thinking of the Swedish-language original, with cheezburger type sentences in the style of "Look. Is Max. Max have cookie. Max likes cookie. Good, good cookie."

2. One of the Tumblr comments claimed that Moffat is a homophobe because the Doctor has only had romantic ties to women. Now, maybe that person really is an advocate for gay rights, but s/he sounds an awful lot like a petulant slash fan who's disappointed that hir OTP isn't canon. OTOH, at least it's a proper argument with some thought put into it and no attacks on random bystanders, so kudos for that.

(For the record, if you want to argue homophobia in Moffat's writing, I think the "eye slippage" conversation in "Coupling" is your best bet, and even that's a bit flimsy.)

3. There's a card project for Steven Moffat, Amanda Abbington, and Caitlin Blackwood. I don't know about you, but considering the shit that's been going down, that's the sort of thing I'd sign even for Eric Kripke and Zack Snyder.
