computer stuff, silliness, and Primeval

So now I have two computers, which is fun, though I still tend to use my old one. Though the new one is luring me in with a Death on the Nile computer game which is remarkably hard to resist, considering that I know who the murderer is. But still, so far, I tend to use the old one, or both at once, which is of course a waste of electricity.

Her name is Goneril, by the way. My first one was Regan (because it froze at midnight and was clearly possessed), the current desktop is Cordelia, so it was always obvious that the next one would be Goneril.

It's Friday night and I'm very tired. That is my only excuse for laughing until I cried and couldn't breathe over this piece of news. For those of you who don't speak Swedish, a family found a milk carton where the date "26 FEB" had been replaced with "26 BAJS" = poop. What cracks me up is that some bored employee at Arla dairies must have deliberately replaced the text, and that in doing so, s/he didn't pick something more vulgar, but stuck to the childish BAJS. 26 KUK hadn't been half as funny.

Now, for #2 on things I did while the computer was gone: Started rewatching Primeval from the beginning. I find that it's hard to stop doing that, now that I'm back online. I've got all these other shows waiting for me, but Primeval is just as addictive as it was the first time around. Possibly even more, since I know what's coming and keep going, "Oh, but I can't stop watching NOW, Becker and Sarah are joining! And oh, just one more episode and there's Danny!"

Watching the first season was fun from the casting perspective, too. "You're going to die, you're going to die, you're going to die, you're going to die, and you'll be erased from existance and turned into someone else." Though I do think the simplest explanation for the Claudia/Jenny thing is that Claudia was a divorcee who went by her married name, and one of Jenny's parents didn't like the name Claudia, and also, the two versions were brought up differently. There's really no need to go into some strange "Oh, Claudia Brown never existed but this other person HAPPENS to look just like her and have some of her mannerisms."

One upside to rewatching is that I care more about the characters now, which makes me pick up on more details and also be more affected by the death scenes. I actually cried for Tom this time around, and teared up a bit for Stephen. (Though compared to the similar scene in Angel... actually there's no comparison. Sorry, Stephen, you can't compete.) It'll be interesting to see if I'll cry for Cutter. Or Sarah, considering that she doesn't get a death scene. I'm lamenting her death in advance, now; she's even more enjoyable the second time.

You know, I was trying to figure out another show, apart from Robin of Sherwood, that kills off its main character and just keeps going. I can't think of any others. A few that kill off the main character in the last ep, and a couple that have the main characters moving away, but none that go "Oh, hey, let's just shoot him and put someone else in there!" A necessity, I know, but I'm still stunned and pleased that it worked.

And last time around, I complained that Becker doesn't get a personality until season 4, but he does show at least an embryo of one early on. I mean, he tries to sass Lester. To no avail, of course (you can't sass Lester), but still, there's that, and a few remarks after that, which show at least some attempt to make him more than muscle.

I know there are a lot of Becker/Jess shippers out there, but if there is a season 6, I hope he turns out to be gay. It would explain his unwillingness to do something about the Jess situation, and the show could use a gay character. I haven't seen that much of him on the rewatch, though, maybe I'll change my mind.

The one thing that gets worse on rewatch is Helen. She's just not a very compelling villain, what with her ever-changing motivation and incompetent sultriness. (I have fancied a lot of sultry villainesses. Helen just annoys me.) At least season 3 means we get the well-dressed velociraptor, that's always fun!

Final comment (right now): You can't tell me that the thing in Danny's brother's ghost house wasn't a graveling. It was a graveling to a ridiculous degree.
