Lost Girl is made of bisexual awesome!

morthel talked me into watching Lost Girl, for which I am eternally grateful. She didn't even have to talk a lot. In fact, I'm not sure why my friends list isn't raving about it left and right.

The tagline for this show might be: A bisexual succubus sets up house with a thieving street rat. Together they fight crime.

And that's really all you need to know, because if you weren't sold by BISEXUAL SUCCUBUS I don't know what's wrong with you.

If you still want to know a bit more, I have a brief crack_van-esque breakdown under the cut, with some vague spoilers.

This is Bo. Bo was raised by humans, so she was quite shocked to find that she can seduce people into following her every whim... and that actually making out with them can lead to them falling down dead. In the pilot episode, she saves Kenzi's life, which leads to a bunch of things, most importantly that the Fae find out about her.
The Fae are an ancient race of superpowered people, divided into the Light and Dark clans. Bo is a subcategory of Fae known as succubus, and the Fae leaders demand that she picks a clan. To which she says, fuck that, teams are stupid. So she picks humanity instead and heads off to become a private detective specializing on the paranormal. (Someone's been watching Angel! Or Torchwood, because Bo is a somewhat more mellow Jack Harkness for the ladies.)

This is Kenzi. Kenzi is a thieving street rat (human) who decides she needs a big strong friend like Bo. She's also the one who decides they should have a detective agency, because money is good. In short, Kenzi is the world's awesomest annoying little pseudo-sister, and sisterly is how it stays, because Kenzi is disappointingly straight. Even so, she's probably my favourite character.

This is Dyson. Dyson is Bo's police contact and go-to guy for sexual healing. (Since Fae are more resilient than humans, she can get energy from them without killing them. Practical!) He's mostly a good guy, though he can get a bit growly and territorial, and that's all I'm going to say about his power. Even though the show isn't above going the ”I like you but I can't say I like you because blah blah plotcakes” route, it gets points for temporarily resolving the UST through a friends with benefits deal. Which is good, because Dyson makes a better friend than boyfriend, and because it leaves Bo free to hit on other people. Such as...

This is Lauren, a human doctor working for the Ash. (More about him later.) She's very interested in resolving Bo's sexual control issues. For research purposes. Yes. And it's very important, from a scientific standpoint, to get Bo to the point where she can safely have sex with humans.
Don't worry, despite my teasing Bo/Lauren is fully text. In theory, I'd be all over this pairing. In practice, I find Lauren a little boring, and I've come to the conclusion that the only resolution of this triangle I'd like is a threeway. Which hasn't happened yet, though Bo has considered it, and she has had a threeway with some other people. (Told you this show was awesome!)

This is Trick. Trick owns a bar and is awesomer than everyone. He fills the gruff mentor role, and like all gruff mentors he's a big softie inside. Next to Kenzi, he's my favourite character, and he has some gold scenes with her, which is also true for...

This is Hale. Hale is Dyson's partner in police work. He has a mean whistle and a smartaleck attitude, and he and Kenzi tend to bond over their frustrations over their respective partners. I may or may not be shipping them. :-)

And finally, the big players that we nevertheless don't see a whole lot of:

This is the Ash. He's the leader of the Light Fae, which doesn't stop him from being quite a jerk.

This is the Morrigan. She's the leader of the Dark Fae, as if the makeup and fur collar didn't already tell you that. :-)

That's everyone, basically! There are a few more recurring characters (including one BIG SPOILER), but I'm not getting into that here.

I have mainlined the entire 13-ep season (it's been renewed for a second one, yay!) and am still all sparkly-happy that this show even exists. Do watch it so we can be sparkly-happy together!
