Scandinavia and the World had a
Valhalla tribute in their Halloween special, which is awesome enough on its own. Even more awesome is the fact that they linked to a YouTube video of the Valhalla cartoon, in Danish with English subtitles. YAY! This is such an awesome comic, and I'm so glad to be able to share its awesomeness with the non-Scandinavians on my flist. (On a sidenote, when the kids at school did a job on Vikings last year, this was the only Viking film I could find that was both child-friendly and any good.)
Here, have part 1, to lure you in:

I've also (re)discovered Cagney and Lacey - I had only ever seen the reunion before, but of course I love Tyne Daly muchly from Judging Amy. In the two eps of C&L I've seen so far, she's just as lovely here. :-) I'm also kind of intrigued by the textual sexism; when these two go undercover as hookers, they actually point out that it's a symptom of boneheaded male chauvinism on behalf of their superiors. In general, the show makes a big deal out of the level of stupid they have to face on a daily basis. I can imagine that it's quite annoying if it continues in every episode through the series, but right now, it's downright refreshing in comparison to "post-feminist" shows and movies claiming, "Oh, we're all equal now, and the girls just choose to inhabit these tired old gender roles because they like it."

And just to amuse y'all, I had the following IM conversation with Padma the other day (translated):
ME: *reads movie news* Martin Freeman has been hired as Bilbo, that sounds reasonable.
HER: ...
HER: ah wait
HER: yes
HER: hahahahahaha
HER: I was thinking morgan
ME: hahahaha
HER: yes martin works he's a hobbit already
ME: would admittedly have been interesting
HER: hahaha yup
ME: especially if they'd have to explain how he turns into Ian Holm when old
HER: ;)
HER: wouldn't it just!
HER: but it would have been fun ;)
ME: yes, if nothing else then to hear the fans screaming
HER: oooooh yes
ME: but Mos Def was Ford Prefect and that worked fine
HER: oh yes
ME: plus Morgan is God and thus all-powerful and can play anything
ME: case solved
