Vampire Diaries wows me... again

Oct 22, 2010 18:25

You know, I keep expecting The Vampire Diaries to hit its sophomore slump, and instead it insists on giving me rich, delicious episodes. Maybe it's because it started out so bad? That way, it had its sophomore slump in its first year and can skip it now.

Anyway, about the ep.

Spoilers, and please, all of you who watch this show, come talk to me about it! )

I agree with all of this, minus having to warm up to Stefan, because I liked him enough in the books (if only because he wasn't Damon ( ... )

Hee! I hadn't read the books. I expected him to be Dull Vampire Boyfriend, and he's... well, not.

I wish I could learn half the lessons this show has on pacing and dramatic tension.

Yeah, it's really brilliant that way. It never drags, and yet it doesn't feel crammed, just rich. I can't help wondering how long that can last, it feels almost wasteful in its generosity.

but I won't be hugely surprised if Matt does go.

I think the one thing that speaks in Matt's favor is that they've so clearly set him up to die and thus preparing the audience, and they never prepare the audience. So whatever's going to happen, I think it won't be the way we think it will.

Every. Damn. Week. I find myself thinking "Oh - No - don't use up these fabulous stories, then you'll be out of stories!"

Yes! Exactly! And yet somehow, they never are!

at least they give a hint of what the next story will be (like Kat and Matt) so that I know I should tune in next week, rather than just giving up because it HAS to be over.

also, in regards to one of the comments on your other journal in this same thread - I think Damon and his friendship with Liz is a deep deep commentary on Damon's evolving valuation of friendship - or what he wants Elena to see as how he values friendship. Is he so distraught that he lost one friend he thought he could get back with charm that he really is more serious about the few friends he still has? Or does he just want Elena to think that he's changed? I WANT TO KNOW!

Yeah, they're good with the hints/cliffhangers. :-)

I think it's a bit of both. There's definitely a large portion of self interest in his decision, not only in relation to Elena, but also to Stefan and Caroline - killing Liz would get him in more trouble than it's worth. But I also think Liz is one of those people he's starting to like - as pets, if nothing else. :-)

Damon/Liz is such a cute couple. As is Damon/Jeremy.
Ok, whatever, Damon and a deformed possum would be a cute couple.

Heh. For some reason, I don't have any ships on this show.

1 - I don't think this show needs FF, because the original isn't leaving me wanting
and
2 - I haven't had any ships, because I didn't know who would live.

Yup, those would be the reasons right there!
