in which Katta is growly as all fuck

Okay, so someone writes a pretty fun article comparing the sex potential of Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. I, as the idiot I am, read the comments.

FUCK I HATE PEOPLE.

I particularly hate this one:

Cut comment and resulting rant so as to not needlessly bum out my flist. )

sherlock holmes, rant, slash, stupid people

Well, y'know, hoyay is subjective. So there are people who say they don't see it at all. They're just two guys who are friends... and one gets jealous when the other has a girlfriend... and said girlfriend acknowledges that "you love him as much as I do"... and they have each other's wallets and clothes and stuff... and at one point one of them may grope in the other's trouser pocket and tell him not to get excited... but HoYay is subjective, really.

And then of course there are the various interviews and such...

Oh! Thanks for those other two video links! Gods, I love how cool and funny they both are about the "subtext". And how completely open they are to that interpretation, flaunting it, even! It makes me feel warm and happy. I don't think that sort of thing would have happened twenty or even ten years ago. But that these two major and highly acknowledged actors can sit and taunt the tight-arse conservatives in public like this is just wonderful. It doesn't really matter if it's make-believe or not -- because the point is that they are not in the least concerned that it might harm their images or careers or the success of the film. They are happily putting it out there as a very obvious inferrence, even that it's integral to the film and our enjoyment of it. And their own rl relationship. I hope they *will* make romcoms together! ♥ ♥ ♥

Also, I enjoyed this part of the original article you linked to above:

We can imagine all the sex we want to into the fictional work "Sherlock Holmes" but in the sweaty end all we'll have is our ( ... )

...And I don't think those links even include the one where the reporter asks which one is the girl. I'll have to try and find that interview again. (Law cracks up, Downey claims he doesn't want to label them that way.)

Btw, in Law's Letterman appearance, it turned out he had a tiny guest part in the Sherlock Holmes TV series as a teen. I can't remember if that's in part 1 or part 2 of the interview, though.

And yeah, the original article was lovely; my squee was just ruined by the comments.

Yes, I've seen that somewhere. It's apparently the Jeremy Brett series, so I'll probably come across that episode sooner or later. :)

Heh, I made the active decision to not read the comments. :)

I wonder if his view of the Holmes world was at all affected by his first part in it being a crossdresser. :-)

I couldn't find the "who's the girl" interview (drat!) but I did find Guy Ritchie trying to stop saying Hotson and failing miserably.

Hotson. LOL. XD

What's happening about Tuesday, BTW? Just so I can plan... And if it isn't coming off, I want to know since I want to go and see it again *soon*. ^^

Six-ish showing on Tuesday, my friend is eager to meet you. (And I realized yesterday I don't know - or at least don't remember - your name. *g* Internet makes social interactions so interesting.)

I haven't bought the tickets yet, but since everyone seems on board I might as well do that.

It's Pernilla. :)

I checked and apparently the early showing is at 17.40, which is pretty early. I think I can do it though. It would give me a good excuse to skip a class at school that I feel singularly uninspired to attend. ;) (Good for me, that is; I doubt my teacher would approve...)

There seems to be quite a lot of tickets left. Good for us, but hey! Everyone! You need to go and see this film! Forget about Avatar and New Moon! We need a sequel...

(Oh, and plz remember the pensioner thing...)

Eeeeek! That's... early. *curses* I'm going to have to alter my work hours. (Late showing is Not Good for me, since I'll start work at 7.30 AM.) Drat. Well, it should be doable; I'll just have to work half an hour later some other day.

And don't worry, I haven't forgotten.

Good for us, but hey! Everyone! You need to go and see this film! Forget about Avatar and New Moon! We need a sequel...

It's second in box office in the US, so I'm thinking the sequel will probably be done. I wonder if the relative lack of Swedish movie goers is because they barely have any ads in the newspapers. Lots and lots of ads for Göta Kanal 3, but not for SH.

OTOH, they do have posters on bus stops. (I may have mouthed "I love you" to one.)

I haven't heard back from my friend, so I'm going to assume that 17.40 is okay and order the tickets.

And I finally found the who's the girl? interview. It's been driving me crazy.

Great! All set then! I'm looking forward to it.

That was good! "No, that would be labelling us". ♥

Since I'm sure you are dying for me to chime in... love2loveher January 10 2010, 01:02:48 UTC
Ok. I have to say, I could easily see it both ways. I could see it as they are just friends, and Homes is insanely jealous that his buddy is leaving (It felt a lot like Turk/JD) Or I could totally re-write is as Brokeback Mountain, with Holmes being the one that wishes he could quit Watson. Watson was less determinedly gay to me, not because he had a fiance, but because he seemed to really truly want a regular life. Holmes really truly proved that he could take or leave the girl ( ... )

Hee! Yeah, that's sort of my verdict too. Holmes is just not straight. Asexual, maybe, but definitely not straight. If he's in love with anyone it's Watson. (Seriously, check the wikipedia for the books, there doesn't seem to be ANY evidence that Holmes fancied women. Not even Irene.)

If so, does Watson reciprocate? He clearly loves Holmes very much, but is it sexual? Maybe. Maybe Mary is a beard, maybe he's bisexual and really does love her, maybe he's straight after all.

(Btw, I remember some reviewer of BBM going, "Why do they call it a gay cowboy movie? It's not. It's a bisexual wrangler movie.")

A reviewer may have said it, but I know my current roomate said at the time "They are bisexual sheep herders!"

After staying up all night watching the Youtube clips, I have to say that I also believe that RDJr is madly in love with Jude Law. He can't keep his hands OFF that boy! Nothing about him seems genuinly straight.
