Dear Yuletide Goat:
Thank you so much for offering to write one of these fandoms. They're all severely underficced and in need of your help. I don't know if you're the sort of writer who needs specific prompts or lots of freedom. If you need the freedom, you have it. If you need prompts, I'll try to help, but I can't promise to narrow it down very much for you, because there are just too many ways you could play this and still make me ridiculously happy.
Some of my favourite story elements are family (blood or chosen), courage despite your fears, playful banter, culture clashes (including outside views of everyday stuff), crossdressing, disability, old people, non-cute children, and weird shit. So any of that could work as a prompt, if you want.
A note on pairings: I read gen, het, boyslash, femslash... generally speaking, the characters matter more to me than what sort of pairing they're in if any. I do tend to take a match-making approach to romance, meaning that I'm not terribly fond of dysfunctional pairings. (East of Eden I suppose is the exception, since most of the characters are too dysfunctional themselves for anything else.)
RequestFandom1: Little Mosque on the Prairie
RequestFandomChar1: Fatima Dinssa/Rayyan Hamoudi
RequestDetail1: I would love a character piece on either one of these lovely ladies. Pairings are entirely optional.
I've only seen about half of LmotP, for some reason, but don't be afraid to spoil me for the rest. I have a great love for most of the characters, but when I started thinking of who I might really want in a fic, Fatima and Rayyan came up as options. Bring in one of them or both, and feel free to accessorize with others.
RequestFandom2: Fame (1980 movie)
RequestFandomChar2: Any
RequestDetail2: I can't pick a character; I love them all. Post-movie would be nice - what happened to (character of choice)?
I know this request is vague, and I'm sorry, but I honestly couldn't decide who I wanted to request; the whole cast is so fricking wonderful! And since the tv series rewound the clock (and removed most of the movie's conflicts), there's no way of knowing how they each solved their problems, or if they solved them at all. Some characters certainly seemed more likely to dig themselves in...
RequestFandom3: John Steinbeck - East of Eden
RequestFandomChar3: Cal Trask/Cathy Ames/Lee
RequestDetail3: I love this book a lot, particularly the twisted family relationships and the religious/philosophical aspects. (I know, that's pretty much the whole book.) The three characters mentioned are, IMO, the most interesting. They don't all have to be in the story, and it's fine to include other characters. The book being what it is, you can make the story as dark as you want (though I don't object to fluff if that's what you prefer).
Okay, I'm not gonna lie, I was drawn into this story by the James Dean film. :-) But then, reading the book, I was captured by the religious discussion, as well as the chilling description of Cathy, who may be the best literary psychopath I've ever encountered. (Especially since, in a strange way, I kind of end up liking her.) So there's Cathy for that reason, and Cal for the teen drama. Lee, I added because he's so low-key awesome, and because he's forced to hide away large parts of himself, which has to be a rough position to be in.
RequestFandom4: Lene Kaaberbol - Shamer Chronicles
RequestFandomChar4: Any
RequestDetail4: I love these books and found each one more fascinating than the one preceding it. Any fanfiction you'd like to write about the series would be highly welcome. The most interesting character IMO is probably Sezuan, but I'll be happy to read fic about all the characters.
I'm being vague again, sorry! But I really did love everyone in these books, and I can think of very few things you could do to them that would displease me. (Uh, don't take that as an encouragement to prove me wrong.) The one thing I can think of that Lene Kaaberbøl did that really annoyed me was her repeated fake-out death scenes, but then, that shouldn't be very hard for you to avoid.
Again, thank you, and I hope this letter has been helpful rather than the opposite!
