printer-buying help, please?
For once, I have a decent sum of money, what with both the Christmas money from my parents and my salary for having worked full time three weeks. I have already burned some of the Christmas money buying films. (Both Narnia films and Dårfinkar & Dönickar, the gender-bendy TV show I adored as a kid. The show is up on YouTube as well, for those of you who want to see it but can't pay for it. Not subtitled, alas.)
Anyway. I am now thinking of buying a printer. Problem is, I don't really know much about printers, especially since I haven't had a functioning one in years. Therefore, I am calling the help of my gifted flist, because, as I said to axa, you're a bunch of unbiased nerds and thus asking you is much better than asking in the store. :-)
Some random ideas of what I'm looking for:
Like I said, I don't know much about this stuff, and while I'm a reasonably intelligent person, it would help if the printer was relatively easy to use.
I'm not a photographer and don't own a camera (that's on my wishlist for when I work full time longer than three weeks), so while I don't want images to look like crap, I'm not going to throw a hissyfit because the blue is one shade wrong.
I think I may need a scanner - I haven't ever had one, but I have photographed photos and illustrations with my cellphone and put them on my computer, which is clearly an inferior method.
All that stuff about editing the pic in the printer itself, or burning to CDs, or printing from USB, etc... it's nice and all, but I have a computer. I don't mind using it for that.
I want something that'll last me a while, rather than being laughably unsuitable after a year's use.
Separate ink cartridges for separate colours seems like a good idea.
About money: If I have to cough up a bit more for quality, I'll do that, but I'd rather not spend more than 1500 kr (roughly $200), and preferably a bit less.
I'm considering the Canon Pixma MP540. What do you guys think?
