friends

I keep getting more people on my friends' list. I love that.

And incidentally, that is on topic, because today's topic is friends. I read "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" the other day, and found it a bit hard to take. Not the story itself, it was sweet in a semi-Fannie Flagg sort of way, but the idea of Ya-Yas. Having three best ( Read more... )

While I do agree, I wanted to point out that depending on the size of the town these four girls grew up in -- there may be no adding of new friends because there's no adding of new population. (Of the right age/gender). Decades ago, folks moved less and left town less (at least somewhat). Girls getting married right out of high school didn't have dorms full of new friends, and they didn't go to summer camp because they already lived in small towns were you could camp out in each other's back yards.

So though it does seem weird that they didn't manage to add new friends -- at least in adulthood, when they should have been meeting new people, age non-withstanding, it isn't entirely unreasonable to think they didn't.

That said, I change friends over every several years, myself. :-) I don't think there's anyone I keep in touch with from more than ten years ago...

Which brings me to another topic: Why I get difficulty in breathing when I go to small towns. :-)
